Despite much controversy over the past two weeks, Duck Dynasty will return on schedule next year, with Phil Robertson an active participant, A&E announced.

The company suspended Robertson indefinitely December 18 following controversial anti-gay comments the 67-year-old made in an interview with GQ.

Duck Dynasty had been on hiatus when the comments went public; the show is set to return in January and to resume filming new episodes this spring.

None of that will change. The network, “after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups,” says the show will go on.

The Robertson Family

The Robertson family admitted that the anti-gay comments were coarse, but criticized the suspension and implied they would not film without Phil.

Since the national controversy erupted, Phil Robertson has been defiant, reiterating his stance on gays, sin and homosexuality at a Bible study group.

He has been roundly criticized by gay rights groups, but supporters began demanding his reinstatement and even planning a Chick-Phil-A Day.

The network thus found itself in the midst of a PR nightmare, and ultimately decided to distance itself from Phil's views while still bringing back the show.

A&E's statement on the decision, released Friday, reads:

Diehard fans of Duck Dynasty are planning to display their loyalty by holding a day of appreciation for Phil Robertson at their local Chick-fil-A franchises.

According to the Chick-Phil-A Day Facebook page, Phil Robertson fans are encouraged to wear their "Duck Commander or camouflage gear" to lunch.

The January 21 event planned to "stand for free speech" and "sit for good food" has over 24,000 likes and 60,000 listed attendees since its announcement.

Robertson has been the target of a media firestorm since making comments on gays and gay sex in a GQ magazine interview earlier this month.

The scandal led to his "indefinite suspension" from A&E.

Despite the apparent appropriateness of the location, the Southern-based fast food chain is already working to distance itself from Chick-Phil-A Day.

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson exhibited some of the family values that he preaches on Christmas, gifting his wife Miss Kay a wedding ring.

The 67-year-old reality TV star and evangelical Christian has been married to Kay since 1966, but had never gotten her a wedding ring before now.

The couple never had a wedding, either, until the Duck Dynasty Season 4 premiere this fall. This family moment was captured by Sadie Robertson.

"After 50 years of marriage, Papaw Phil finally gave Mamaw Kay a wedding ring for Christmas," the duo's granddaughter tweeted with the photo.

As debate rages throughout the country over Phil Robertson's suspension over anti-gay comments to GQ, the family seems to be happy as ever.

The family enjoyed some holiday cheer in their West Monroe, La., home.

Jesse Jackson has opted to weigh in on Phil Robertson and his inflammatory comments, calling the Duck Dynasty star worse than Rosa Parks' bus driver.

While Robertson's anti-gay comments in GQ got him suspended by A&E and ignited a national controversy, he made other eyebrow-raising statements as well.

Specifically, he said the Nazis needed Jesus, and opined that African-Americans were happier and not mistreated in pre-civil rights era Louisiana.

Collectively, the interview spurred Jackson into action.

"These statements uttered by Robertson are more offensive than the bus driver in Montgomery, Alabama, more than 59 years ago," Jackson told ABC News.

Why does he think Robertson's comments are worse?

"At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law," said the 72-year-old minister.

"Robertson's statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was 'white privilege.'"

Sarah Palin has already expressed her view on the Phil Robertson scandal that has rocked television's top-rated reality show.

Soon after A&E suspended the Duck Dynasty star, Palin Tweeted that Robertson simply expressed his "personal opinion" and his rights to free speech were being impinged on.

That's a commonly misguided point of view, considering the First Amendment has nothing to do with one suffering professional consequences for one's words or actions.

But Palin went On the Record With Greta Susteren this week and admitted she hasn't actually read Robertson's fiery comments regarding homosexuality.

"I haven't read the article. I don't know exactly how he said it," Palin told the host. "What he was doing was in response to a question about a lifestyle he disagrees with, and yet he has said over and over again he doesn't hate the person engaging in the lifestyle he disagrees with, but in response he was quoting the gospel.

"So people who are so insulted and offended by what he said evidently are offended by what he was quoting in the gospel."

Is it possible that Phil Robertson's suspension from Duck Dynasty is just for show? Probably not entirely, but it may end with little fanfare next month.

On Wednesday, January 15, A&E will begin airing new episodes of the hit reality show with no plans to edit Phil out of the already-completed material.

There are also Duck Dynasty marathons airing nearly every night this holiday season, despite Phil's anti-gay comments and the ensuing controversy.

Despite his "indefinite suspension," all signs point to Robertson being back on the program before long, provided all parties can agree on how to move on.

"The network also hopes the media and fan furor will cool down over the holidays and that tensions over shooting future episodes can then be resolved," EW reports.

“There’s no negotiation to have; we’re doing the show,” an insider said.

More quotes attributed to embattled Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson have emerged from his church Bible study group on Sunday, and they're interesting.

As we reported earlier, Phil doubled down on the anti-gay comments that got him suspended from the A&E show, insisting his remarks are rooted in the Bible.

Not that he thinks he's perfect, however. Phil says he is not without sexual sin, but has put it in check ... and finds the solution to be pretty straightforward.

"Sexual sins are numerous and many. I have a few myself," he said. "If you're a man, find yourself a woman, marry them and keep your sex right there."

Phil and Kay Robertson have been married 49 years. Their eldest of four sons, Alan, is a pastor who joked about the scandal in church Sunday (below).

This is no laughing matter to Phil, though, nor is it likely to lead to an apology.

“I will not give or back off from my path, because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions,” Robertson said.

"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious. Sexual immorality is No. 1 on the list."

Bristol Palin is following in her famous mother's footsteps, voicing support for Phil Robertson and publicly standing by the embattled Duck Dynasty patriarch.

In a new blog post, the 23-year-old laments how the "hypocritical" LGBT community expects "every single flippen person to agree with their life style."

"This flies in the face of what makes America great ... people can have their own beliefs and own opinions and their own ways of life," adds Palin.

Last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin slammed A&E for its suspension of Phil Robertson following his anti-gay comments in GQ magazine.

Now her daughter is following suit with a photo (above) captioned, "I support Phil Robertson and his right to express his faith and beliefs. Shame on A&E."

In her post, entitled "Leave Phil Robertson Alone!", Bristol Palin says "everyone needs to treat others like God would, with love. It goes both ways."

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson defended himself Sunday in church, according to reports, and won't apologize for his now-infamous anti-gay comments.

In fact, Phil reportedly doubled down on them, insisting that his remarks are rooted in the Bible and even suggesting that Jesus Christ can save gay people.

“I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater,” Phil Robertson, 67, told a small Bible study group at his church in West Monroe, La.

But the bearded leader of the duck-hunting clan surrendered no ground in his ongoing battle against critics who disagree with his view of homosexuality.

I will not give or back off from my path, because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions,” Phil Robertson said.

"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious,’’ he said.

“Sexual immorality is No. 1 on the list. How many ways can we sin sexually? My goodness. You open up that can of worms, and people will be mad at you over it."

Charlie Sheen is TAKING IT to Phil Robertson, saying he had better apologize for his crude anti-gay comments or face a media storm like he wouldn't believe.

As reported earlier, A&E made the controversial decision to suspend Robertson from Duck Dynasty largely because of the gay employees at the network.

Clearly, Sheen agrees with that move, but he's not satisfied.

Days after Phil likened called gays immoral sinners (among many other things, in much coarser wording) in GQ, the actor tore into him in a Twitter tirade:

  • MaSheen
  • Phil R.

"Hey Mallard brained Phil Robertson! you have offended and hurt so many dear friends of mine, who DO NOT have the voice or the outreach that I do."

"Well news flash shower-dodger, I will speak loudly and clearly for ALL of them."

"So, just when your desperately sub evolved ass thought the pressure was off, you are in the crosshairs of a MaSheen style media beat down."

(I'll try to keep the big words to a minimum as not to confuse you)."
