Baseball star Roger Clemens carried on a decade-long affair with country star Mindy McCready, beginning when she was a 15-year-old aspiring singer performing in a karaoke bar and Clemens was the 28-year-old Boston Red Sox ace and married father of two, according to a shocking report in the New York Daily News.

Vivid details of the affair could surface in several media projects that Mindy McCready is already involved with - including a documentary that begins filming today in Nashville, a new album and a reality show.

McCready, who lives on a quiet, tree-lined street in Nashville, Tenn., is attempting a comeback following a string of legal and personal woes.

Through his attorney Rusty Hardin on Sunday, Roger Clemens confirmed a long-term relationship but denied that it was of a sexual nature.

"He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her," Hardin told the Daily News. "He's considered her a close family friend... He has never had a sexual relationship with her."

The revelations could torpedo claims of an "unsullied character" that are central to the defamation suit Clemens filed January 6 against his former personal trainer Brian McNamee, who accuses him of steroid use.

From a PR standpoint, Clemens' decision to file the suit against McNamee the night the Rocket appeared with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes could end up being the biggest risk he has taken yet in a bid to clear his name.

Under investigation for perjury, Roger Clemens already endured the ignominy of publicly throwing his wife under the bus - saying she took human growth hormone (HGH) - as well as having photos of bloody gauze and needles linked to him and undergoing scrutiny of an alleged injection-site abscess on his buttocks.

In the age of Barry Bonds, Jessica Simpson, Tony Romo and Cynthia Rodriguez, we didn't think anything within the world of sports could surprise us anymore.

Then, Brian McNamee accused Debbie Clemens of taking HGH - and our jaws have yet to recover from hitting the floor so hard.

McNamee is the former trainer of Roger Clemens. The two are in the middle of a heated debate, during which the former is accusing the latter of using steroids and HGH to prolong - and improve - his career in Major League Baseball. The latter denies using any performance-enhancing drugs.

Instead of worrying about economic problems in the country, Congress will hear each side of the argument next week.

Now, however, McNamee has upped the muscle-bound ante by stating that he also provided Debbie Clemens with HGH in order to help her look better for the following Sports Illustrated photo shoot:
