David Letterman Manhandles Spencer Pratt

This interview is from a week ago now, but Spencer Pratt's appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman is definitely worth revisiting.

The talk show host had a field day with The Hills villain, skewering him over his hefty nightclub appearance fees, asking him what exactly he does for a living (a fair question), flat-out calling him a dope and so forth.

Click to watch CelebTV's two-minute highlight reel of Spencer Pratt's visit to The Late Show, which also features a talk with Heidi Montag backstage:

David Letterman: "How do you think [the interview] is going so far?"
Heidi Montag: "It's going really well. Spencer's the man."
David Letterman: "For what?"

Lauren Conrad, David Letterman Talk About The Hills

Lauren Conrad was spotted outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York Tuesday, where The Hills star and budding designer chatted up David Letterman.

Lauren Conrad on the Late Show

The pair talked about what Lauren Conrad was like as a child.

"Our house was in Orange County. The back was a huge canyon, and I was a really big tomboy when I was little," Lauren Conrad said. "I'd always go hiking and I had a rock collection. And I'd come back up and... you get ticks! They're gross!"

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Lauren Conrad also revealed that she is taking a computer class at the FIDM with none other than Stephanie Pratt! OMG! David Letterman also refers to the great Spencer Pratt as a newt (a reptile), which is pretty classic.

Cutie Pie Alert: Harry Letterman

He's underrated within the world of celebrity babies.

But even Maddox Jolie-Pitt and that cool hair may need to take a backseat to a new cuteness contender:

Say hello to Harry Letterman.

The toddler is seen here playing with his father, David Letterman. While little is known about the toddler's mother, this much is known about Harry himself: the kid is adorable.

Suri Cruise has some serious competition all of a sudden.

David Letterman Inks $120M Contract Extension

Talk show king David Letterman has signed a contract extension to host The Late Show on CBS until 2010. He is currently paid $40 million a year for his hosting duties and his deal deal is worth more than $120 million.

Wow. Even Dave's longtime nemesis, Oprah Winfrey, who is believed to have more money than God, would be impressed by that kind of sum.

"I'm thrilled to be continuing on at CBS," the 59-year-old Letterman said. "At my age you really don't want to have to learn a new commute."

The announcement of Letterman's three-year contract extension comes nearly nine months before his current deal was set to expire in August 2007.

Letterman, one of American television's highest-paid entertainers, draws an average audience of 4.3 million viewers a night but has lagged behind The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which draws ratings of 5.7 million.

The Emmy-award winner has hosted The Late Show since 1993 after 11 years as host of NBC's Late Night program in the time slot immediately following The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He defected from NBC when it chose Leno over him to replace Carson.

We're happy Dave is staying put. He's a funny guy in his own right, and you can always count on his show for amusing visits by celebrities... lately, such as the hunky Nick Lachey, the hot and newly-single Britney Spears, and the newly-racist and insane Michael Richards.

Michael Richards Appears on David Letterman, Offers Weird Apology, Outlook on Race Relations

Racist Loon?A day after his racist tirade was made public, Michael Richards publicly apologized.

Appearing via satellite (pictured) on The Late Show with David Letterman, the actor made some odd remarks. He acknowledged that such sentiment had the potential to "come[s] through and fire[s] out of me."

He then tried to find an awkward parallel between his ugly rant and conflict that has arisen between blacks and whites since Hurricane Katrina.

Jerry Seinfeld was on the program and actually told the audience to stop laughing at his friend. Richards said he lost his temper after some members of the audience interrupted his act and that he "took it badly," unleashing the racist invective that TMZ first aired yesterday morning.

He apologized to the people who took "the brunt" of his abuse, saying he was "really busted up," but then went on a strange tangent on race relations, saying he was "concerned about hate and rage" and about a "great deal of disturbance between blacks and whites" after Hurricane Katrina.

The remarks were random; not as random as things that Stephen Baldwin says. But still pretty darn random.

Richards did not say whether any other factors contributed to his actions, adding only that he would be doing "personal work" in the aftermath of the incident.

Britney Spears Surprises, Clowns David Letterman

Britney Spears has often been the subject of ridicule, but she drew some good-natured laughs Monday after popping in on the Late Show with David Letterman unannounced.

Sporting a blonde bob and a cute, short black dress that showed off her newly svelte shape, the wife of K-Fed and the mother of Jayden James surprised the host by walking onstage behind him as he was sitting at his desk.

"Oh, my god," he exclaimed, standing up to shake her hand and plant a kiss behind her ear. "Hi, how are you? Nice to see you. Oh, you look wonderful."

Brit was happy to see David Letterman, too.

Hey, Dave!

"Thank you so much. I'm in town, and I'm just such a huge fan. I had to stop by," Spears said.

"That's very nice of you to say. That means so much to me," said Letterman.

But the joke was on the late-night king.

"Uh, no, I wasn't talking about you," Spears said. "I was talking about Will Ferrell."

A flustered Letterman then quickly directed her to the whereabouts of Ferrell, his scheduled guest for the evening.

"He's in the green room," he said.

On Letterman, Nick Lachey Mum About Vanessa

Uh-oh. Could there be trouble in Nick Lachey land?

The studly singer appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night ... but wouldn't even utter the name "Vanessa Minnillo."

Are they finished as a couple? Is Nick, once again, going Soul-O? No, not at all. Lachey has just made a choice to keep his private life private. (It's a good thing for The Gossip staff that Dustin Diamond has decided to take the opposite approach.)

Anyway, here's a partial transcript of the interview:

David Letterman: You haven't been here in quite a long time.
Nick Lachey: It has been a long time.

DL: You were here with your then wife, the lovely Jessica Simpson.
NL: Yes indeed.

Hey, Back at You, Nick!

DL: You were doing a show that was on MTV about being a newlywed at the time and, I don't want to make you feel, maybe you don't feel bad, I can't tell. But I would think that doing a show like that would maybe actually make the marriage stronger.
NL: Yeah. About that. [Audience laughs] Not so much. I don't think so ... It was among the dumber ideas I think I've ever seen executed in history.

DL: But at the time, there was every reason to do that show. People liked it.
NL: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And for a while, I think we actually enjoyed doing the show as well. It was just so invasive that it became a problem.

DL: Do you think that was why the marriage broke up?
NL: You know that's one of those things where I think until you get enough hindsight and enough clarity and perspective, I don't think you can really know what happened. But, I certainly think it was probably a factor.

** THG Note: Jess banging Bam Margera may not have helped.

DL: Are you still friends? Friendly?
NL: We are. And I think both of us have handled it about as well as we possibly could, under the microscope that we're under and everything. But, I think, again, with time, it'll give us a better opportunity to redefine our relationship.

DL: Now, when I got divorced years and years and years ago, I spent a considerable amount of time thereafter drunk. I mean, really drunk.
[NL and audience laugh]
NL: It wasn't quite that bad but, I definitely think you go through different phases and there's certainly a phase of, "Oh, I don't care about anythingâ€"I'm going to throw myself into a little bit of booze and kind of numb the pain." And I went through a little bit of that and came out on the other side and still have some sobriety left.

Pssst, he may not say it, but he also has a really hot girlfriend. Check out this Vanessa Minnillo picture and see for yourself.
