American Idol Finalists Flirt with Dolphin

Yup, this headline pretty much sums up what went down in Las Vegas last week between the three remaining American Idol finalists and one very lucky mammal.

In between last week's performances and tonight's big final four showdown, David Archuleta, David Cook and Jason Castro all befriended a dolphin, of whom we're guessing millions of teenage girls are jealous...

Tonight, these three will join Syesha Mercado on stage for the latest set of American Idol performance. We'll have a full report on it tomorrow!

Inside American Idol: David Archuleta's Relief, Dedication

David Archuleta has never been in the bottom three on an elimination night. And we'd be willing to wager that he never will be.

But, according to People Magazine, the young, popular crooner was shocked when he was sent to the safe sofa this week.

As David walked over to join Jason Castro, also safe, on the couch, he mouthed "wow, wow, wow" to himself, maintaining a look of shock into the break. We don't know why. Of course he was safe, and he'll continue to be until the finals (where we hope he loses out to David Cook).

Sweet David Archuleta

David Archuleta was reportedly surprised he remained on American Idol this week. Were you?

Also, according to a family friend, Tuesday night's song choice of Neil Diamond's "America" was chosen by Archuleta in dedication to his mom, Lupe, who originally came to the U.S. from Honduras.

Jason Castro and David Archuleta at BritWeek

Typically, we post an American Idol Power Poll on Monday mornings.

But the competition is down to just five singers, so it seems almost fruitless to rank them. Especially seeing as David Cook and David Archuleta are so clearly on a path to the finals against one another.

Therefore, to change it up, here's a look at Archuleta and fellow finalist Jason Castro hanging out at the launch of BritWeek 2008 in Los Angeles last week.

The Hollywood Gossip Hook-Up: Miley Cyrus and David Archuleta

We don't know for sure if Miley Cyrus is dating Thomas Sturges, although recent pictures certainly suggest something is going on there.

We can say for certain, though, that David Archuleta does NOT have a girlfriend. His father confirmed as much in an interview this week.

Recent news items and photos of these two young singers got us to thinking: they should date!!!

Seriously, Cyrus could benefit from having an innocent, popular young man such as Archuleta on her arm; while David could wrap up the American Idol title if viewers spotted him holding hands with the most beloved teenager on the planet.

Think about it, guys. The only holdup to this coupling would be a lack of a catchy nickname. Archus? Mavid? We got nothing.

Should Miley Cyrus and David Archuleta become a couple? We can't imagine a cuter pairing.

Jeff Archuleta Speaks Out on Relationship with Son

While millions of girls scream in delight over David Archuleta every week on American Idol, his father has come under fire for screaming of a different kind.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ.com, for example, has reported that Jeff Archuleta - a 47-year-old small business owner in Salt Lake City - has "screamed at his son and has even withheld water during rehearsals, even bringing his son to tears."

Is Jeff truly this hard on his talented offspring? Us Weekly recently spoke with him to find out...

How would you characterize your involvement with David's career?
Because I'm also a musician, I'm probably a little bit more involved. I kind of look at it like, 'I'm David's music consultant,' someone he can bounce ideas off, who can help him because I do have a lot of experience.

David and Jeff Archuleta

How do you collaborate with David?
When we have a chance to sit down and talk - which is usually at night or in the morning - we'll discuss the songs and the choices he has. He'll ask me what I think, and I'll ask him what he feels good about, and we'll arrive at a consensus. Sometimes he'll call his mom up and get her in-put. We have a family team that tries to help David feel good about his song choices.

When did you realize he had this talent and how did you encourage him?

I first realized he had talent when he was 4 or 5, and his mom taught him to play "Little Drummer Boy" and a church song on the piano. He played very well, but he was very shy and didn't really sing much. When we moved from Florida to Utah when he was 6, we didn't have a piano. I gave him a video to listen to one day just to keep him and his little brother busy while my wife and I were unpacking.

American Idol to David Archuleta: No Prom for You!

The Ultimate CutieDavid Archuleta would have little trouble finding a date for his high school prom.

We know of a few hundreds readers of The Hollywood Gossip that would marry him tomorrow, let alone accompany him to a dance.

Nevertheless, the hopeful singer will be missing out on this event over the weekend because American Idol will not let any of its finalists out of its sights.

As TMZ outlines, the series has strict rules about not letting contestants attend events that are not show-related. Idol keeps them mighty busy with promotional and studio work. Sorry, residents of Murray, Utah, no Archuleta sightings for you this week.

Earlier this month, Brooke White had to skip her sister's wedding for the same reason.

Meanwhile, let's get back to the only American Idol issue that truly matters: Which finalist do you think is going home tonight?

American Idol Fan to David Archuleta: Lick Those Lips!

David Archuleta is the most popular finalist among this season's American Idols, at least among the young, female demographic.

Here's disturbing proof of Archuleta's main fan base, as a 10-year old pleads for David's luscious lips to be licked - and her father (we presume) sits idly by, smiling at the adorable, sex-laden yearning of his child:

Meanwhile, take a look and listen at Archuleta's rendition of "Angels" from last night's show now. Did you enjoy it?

Jordin Sparks on American Idol: The Davids are Goliaths

Like an endorsement for Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton from Al Gore, the support of Jordin Sparks should mean a lot to this year's American Idol finalists.

With that in mind, the two heavy favorites - David Cook and David Archuleta - should rest easy tonight.

"I really like Jason Castro," Sparks told MTV News from the orange carpet at last weekend's Kids' Choice Awards. "I like his look, and I love his vulnerability. He goes out there, and if he messes up, he's just like, 'Oops.'

But I like David Cook too. I think the guys are where it's at this year. I love you, girls â€" please don't get me wrong â€" and I could be totally wrong, because the show is so unpredictable."

I Won!

Jordin Sparks won American Idol last season. Who will win this season?

Come on now, Jordin, pick a winner.

"It's going to be either David Archuleta or David Cook," she said, before sating that she ultimately believes David Cook will be America's next Idol.

We hope she's right!

David Archuleta Wants to Sing with Natasha Bedingfield

David Archuleta may have a girlfriend, but he's been dreaming about another woman for awhile now.

Asked which singer the American Idol favorite would like to duet with, Archuleta gave the somewhat surprising answer of Natasha Bedingfield.

"I love [her]," Archuleta says. "[I'd sing] a really fun song that had a cool beat. I love 'These Words' and her new song 'Love Like This.' She's one of my favorites. She's awesome because she has that cool mix of pop and soul, R&B."

Behind the Scenes of American Idol

As always, the People magazine staffers went behind the scenes of last night's edition of American Idol and dug up some great dirt - as well as funny anecdotes and other moments that were great, but you didn't see on TV. Here are some excerpts ...

Screams and Signs

It's pretty apparent that fans are starting to pick their favorite American Idol stars, as definitive favorites can be read in signs across the audience, as in "I [heart] Brooke White," "We [heart] Michael Johns," or "We Love You Carly."

An American Idol Birthday

Debbie the stage manager urgently called over the PA system during the break â€" "Ryan Seacrest, I need you! Ryan Seacrest, I need you!"

Finally, Ryan headed over to see what was so important. Moments later, the host came out carrying a large white and blue frosted cake with burning birthday candles. Next, all the American Idol stars, judges, the entire crew and audience began to sing "Happy Birthday" to Jason Castro, helping him celebrate the big 2-1 - Idol style!

Who Will It Be?

No matter what David Archuleta says or sings (even obscure Australian songs nobody has ever heard of), the female fans in the audience go wild whenever his name is mentioned or even when he steps onto the stage.

But Tuesday, when Ryan Seacrest asked the 17-year-old star if he'll be going to his high school prom and, if so, whom David Archuleta be bringing, all the teenagers in the pit started going wild, yelling, "Take me, David! Take me!"

A usually shy Archuleta wouldn't let anything slip, even when Ryan asked if the mystery girl sitting in the crowd next to his father would be the lucky one.

A Hard Worker

Almost tripping on her way backstage â€" if not for her faithful bodyguard to save her â€" judge Paula Abdul spent most of the commercial breaks greeting the many teenage girls or "the hand-wavers" inside the American Idol mosh-pit.

Faces in the Crowd

Shar Jackson laughed up a storm when the monitor showed David Archuleta and his sister doing a dance as children. Also back, former Idol Danny Noriega, who spent the night close to his pal Ramiele Malubay's family, sitting in the front row.

Randy Saw Red & Simon Was Red

Somebody definitely had a "Case of the Mondays" on this Tuesday, as Randy Jackson was consistently finding fault in some of the better moments.

But even though Jackson was the hot-headed judge, why was it Cowell with the red face literally? Could it be that the judge, who loves summer water sports, forgot to put on sunscreen at the beach? Simon, you may need to find a stronger SPF.
