Here's a shock: Kristi Yamaguchi is a great dancer!

The Gold Medal-winning ice skating champion proved that her skill set can translate from frozen water to hardwood, as her and Mark Ballas nabbed straight 9's from the judges on Dancing with the Stars last night and earned a standing ovation from the toughest, Bruno Tonioli.

"The ice maiden has just melted my heart," said judge Len Goodman.

Other standouts of the night included:
• Shannon Elizabeth's legs. Wow. The American Pie actress has gams that stretch from here to next week's paso doble?

• Marlee Matlin's cha cha cha. She may not have been able to hear the music, but her sense of timing was acute. Partner Fabian Sanchez deserves a lot of credit.

• The teeth on Marissa Jaret Winokur. The girl can smile! A lot! Brightly!

As the first-ever Dancing with the Stars champion, Kelly Monaco has advice for this season's crop of contestants: ignore celebrity gossip and all outside distractions.

The General Hospital actress - and April 1997 Playboy centerfold - told The Associated Press that she thinks the sixth-season participants should "put `Extra' and `TMZ' … aside. They're there to have fun and learn how to dance. It should be something really personal."

It's okay to read The Hollywood Gossip, though, Jason Taylor, Penn Jillette and everyone else. Monaco didn't advise against this celebrity gossip source. Thank goodness.

Should Mario Lopez be jealous?

On the opening night of Dancing with the Stars, Lopez's former partner and current girlfriend, Karina Smirnoff, didn't just earn the highest score - she did so with a new celebrity... also named Mario!

Mario (the R&B singer) and Karina earned 24 points, eight from each of the judges, for their rendition of the Fox Trot on a night where the six male celebrities performed.

"You can dance!" Carrie Ann Inaba told Mario. "Ladies, this is the standard you're going to have to watch out for. We want to see this on the dance floor."

Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor also moved like he was going after Tom Brady in the pocket, earning 22 points with Edyta Sliwinska; while Chilean actor Christián de la Fuente scored 21 out of 30 points.

None of the other men earned more than 20 points, with the evening's lowest score going to Adam Carolla and beautiful reigning champ Julianne Hough.

Which male on Dancing with the Stars do you think should go home first?

• Actress Shannon Elizabeth: "I've always wondered how I'd do. It looks like fun."

• Actor/entertainer Penn Jillette: "When you look like Sasquatch, it's more comfortable watching the show."

Earlier today, we revealed that Adam Carolla would be teaming up with Julianne Hough on season six of Dancing with the Stars. We now present the rest of this season's cast:

  • Marlee Matlin: Won the Academy Award for Best Actress for "Children of a Lesser God." Deaf, but not nearly as bad an example of stunt casting as Heather Mills was.
  • Penn Jillette: From Penn and Teller. The one who talks.
  • Marissa Jaret Winokur (pictured): Won a Best Actress Tony for Hairspray as Tracy Turnblad.

  • Adam Corolla: Comedian, radio host.
  • Kristi Yamaguchi: Figure skater, Olympic Gold Medalist.
  • Cristián de la Fuente: Unknown actor, appeared in Ugly Betty.
  • Monica Seles: Former tennis champion. Grunts a lot.
  • Mario: Sexy R&B singer.
  • Steve Guttenberg: Actor, starred in Police Academy movies.
  • Jason Taylor: Plays for the Miami Dolphins.
  • Priscilla Presley: Former wife of Elvis.
  • Shannon Elizabeth (pictured): Mediocre actress, gorgeous human being.

The complete cast of new Dancing with the Stars celebrities will be announced tonight.

But The Hollywood Gossip staff has learned that comedian Adam Carolla will be one of the stars competing on the reality show's sixth season.

Carolla currently is the host of a radio show and got his start on MTV's Loveline alongside Dr. Drew Pinsky. He'll be teaming up with beautiful professional Julianne Hough (who partnered with Helio Castroneves to win last season's crown).

We'll post the full cast list tomorrow. For now, answer this question: Which celebrity would you most wanna see on Dancing with the Stars?

We'd go with Kim Kardashian, if only to see those breasts jiggle like the fat deposits on Homer Simpson.

The contestants for this season of Dancing with the Stars will be announced tonight. But we can say this already: the cast will be much uglier than last year.

That's because Maksim Chmerkovskiy won't be included in it.

"He just needs a break," said an ABC spokesperson of Maksim to take a season off from the series. "He is part of the Dancing family, and he will be back."

A fan favorite (i.e. a complete and utter hottie!), Chmerkovskiy may appear on several of Dancing with the Stars' results shows when the pros are featured in group-choreographed dances.

In the meantime, he's putting the finishing touches on a fitness DVD with fellow pro Cheryl Burke. He's also appearing on the February 26 episode of All My Children, teaching various characters how to pole dance.

As Monique Coleman prepares to shoot High School Musical 3, she's perfecting her moves on the Dancing with the Stars national tour.

Below, she blogs about the experience with People magazine:

Not only am I reunited with my old favorite dances, but I'm back with Louis van Amstel (pictured), my season three partner. He has been a dream to dance with again, especially without the pressure of trying to learn dances in less than a week's time and then go out and compete. The show was stressful, but the tour is relaxed and fun.

This time around, the dancing is for pure pleasure and audience enjoyment â€" and the audiences have been phenomenal!

It's been fun to meet new people, reconnect with the dancers, and have some time to myself on the road. I was on tour with High School Musical last year and that was fun â€" but a lot more hectic. For starters, I shared a bus with Ashley Tisdale. This time, I've got my own tour bus and so after each show I come back and just chill. It's heavenly!

My friend Autumn has been traveling with me and we're having a ball. The past couple of nights we've been catching up on our [TV] viewing. I was traveling a lot last year for HSM so I missed some of my favorite TV shows. I'm catching up with season three of Grey's Anatomy and bawling my eyes out.

I'm friends with Sabrina Bryan and we're having a great time spending time together and catching up. The other night after the Cleveland show we had a little party in her bus. We played Nintendo Wii and hung out and had a blast. I got to meet Wayne Newton and he is such a great guy.

What a legend! That was an honor for sure.

The new season of Dancing with the Stars begins March 17.

In the meantime, a series of past stars of the show are touring the country. Among them is High School Musical star Monique Coleman, who is paired with professional Alec Mazo.

Here's what she had to say about the tour to TV Guide:

TVGuide.com: Why did you decide to go on tour?
Monique Coleman: Because I didn't get to do it last year. It's the holidays and there's not much going on. And because of the passion I have for dancing ever since doing the show.

Before she begins filming High School Musical 3, Monique Coleman is Dancing with the Stars again.

TVGuide.com: But you're not going to be dancing with Louis van Amstel, your partner on the show. You're going to be dancing with first-season champ Alec Mazo?
Coleman: Right. Louis is doing the choreography. Alec is definitely tough, but he's amazing at what he does. I can't wait to dance with him.

TVGuide.com: Why has the show meant so much to you?
Coleman: I feel like this is a really tough time in the industry and I feel fortunate to have been a part of two projects that have been hugely successful. If anything, going on tour is an opportunity to express some gratitude to my fans and to get to see them in person. I wouldn't have made it as far as I did if it weren't for people all over the country voting for little me.
