Carli Richards, a 22-year old who was shot in the back by James Holmes during his alleged rampage in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, wants to see the murder suspect given the death penalty.

In the most painful way possible.

"I think death by firing squad would be totally justified," Richards tells TMZ, showing that site her body's bullet holes. "Just injecting him is painless."

Holmes is facing 24 counts of first-degree murder and prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty if he's convicted, as long as surviving victims or families of those killed are in support of that punishment.

"I had enough needles in me that night to know that a needle isn't that bad. I want him to see what it feels like," Richards says of her hospital experience and her feelings on Holmes, adding:

"I wish someone would shoot him and let him bleed out… He shot me with stuff they use to shoot birds and deer. I want him to feel what it's like to feel that helpless."

Missy Franklin is a lot more than a new Olympic champion. She's a mature, grounded, very impressive 17-year old.

The Centennial, Colorado native captured her first Gold Medal yesterday, besting the field in the 100-Meter Backstroke. She then told reporters that each time she hit the pool in London, her thoughts were with the victims of the massacre in Aurora.

Champion Swimmer

"Every single race I'm going to have that Colorado incident back on my mind," Missy said. "It's such a terrible thing and I'm so shaken by it. They're in my thoughts this entire process."

Neither Franklin nor her parents knew any of the victims James Holmes allegedly shot on the morning of July 20, but...

"Aurora and Colorado in general is such a close state that when something like that happens we're all affected by it, no matter who it is. It's hitting very close to home," she said.

James Holmes has been formally charged with murder for his alleged shooting rampage inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater in the early morning hours of July 20.

James Holmes Mug Shot

The former medical school student, who first appeared in court last week, was back there again today, still donning orange hair. He was told he's facing 116 counts of attempted murder - two for each of the 58 attendees who were shot.

He also spoke for the first time during the hearing, answering the judge's question about his attorney's request for more time before a preliminary hearing with a simple "yes."

Overall, Holmes will face 142 charges, including one count of possessing an explosive device and one count of unlawful use of a deadly weapon.

It's unknown at this time if prosecutors will seek the death penalty and Holmes is expected back in court on August 9.

A billboard featuring a meme-style juxtaposition of President Obama and Aurora shooter James Holmes has garnered a great deal of attention, very little of it positive.

The billboard, located in Caldwell, Idaho, features a picture of Holmes, accompanied with the text “Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out.”

Juxtaposed is a photo of Barack Obama, with the text: “Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize.” Check out the controversial billboard below:

Obama Aurora Billboard

The sentiment is similar to one of Heath Ledger's memorable Dark Knight quotes, in which he says no one would blink if he announced a “truck load of soldiers will be blown up," but people would "lose their minds" if he said a city mayor was going to die."

Holmes infamously likened himself to The Joker after the Aurora rampage.

Maurice Clements, the man in charge of the billboard, says he is part of a group who honor the memory of the late Libertarian activist Ralph Smeed.

He says the group is angry over Obama not bringing troops home from war.

"We’re all outraged over that killing in Aurora, Colo., but we’re not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan," Clements said of his message.

Many locals are outraged, calling the billboard "pathetic," and "abhorrent."

What do you think of the Obama-James Holmes billboard?

Another lawsuit is preparing to be filed in response to the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado last Friday morning.

Shirley Wygal, whose 32-year old daughter Rebecca Wingo was among the dozen victims of James Holmes' attack, has reportedly hired an attorney and will soon file suit against the Century 16 Theater, citing a lack of security.

Shooting Victims

According to TMZ insiders, Shirley alleges that the theater's emergency doors - through which an armed Holmes burst through - should have been equipped with alarms and/or guards should have been placed alongside these exits.

A movie goer who survived the massacre has also filed a lawsuit, naming three defendants: Warner Bros., Holmes' doctors and this same theater.

The corporate owner of the theater, Cinemark, has offered to pay all funeral expenses for the victims, a gesture that actually started with Rebecca Wingo. But Wygal turned down the offer and said the event was already covered by another organization.

The movie theater inside which James Holmes took the lives of 12 people last Friday is offering to pay for the funerals of those lost in the massacre.

CO Victims

As first reported by TMZ, several services were held this week, including one for a 32-year old mother of two named Rebecca Wingo.

And insiders say the owners of Cinemark called the chapel where her funeral was being held and made it clear it would cover the expenses for Wingo and also all other victims of the tragedy.

Rebecca's mother actually turned down the offer, sources confirm, but only because the Victims Advocate Fund has already paid for everyone's main funeral expenses.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to all those affected by this terrible incident.

Finally some good news out of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado:

Katie Medley, a movie goer who escaped unharmed from the horrific James Holmes last Friday, gave birth to a boy at the University of Colorado Hospital yesterday morning. He's named Hugo and both child and mother are reportedly doing well.

Tragically, however, Katie's husband Caleb was not as fortunate as his wife: also in attendance at The Dark Knight Rises showing, Caleb was shot in the head and remains in a medically-induced coma.

"He had some motion in his hands today," Seth Medley, Caleb's brother, told reporters at University Hospital Tuesday night. "His injuries are pretty serious. I don't want to get into any details, but there's some serious injuries around his face."

Seth referred the birth of his nephew as "a silver lining to a very dark cloud."

Due to Caleb's presumed recovery time, and the medical bills that are certain to add up, the family has set up a WePay account at calebmedley.com/help. We encourage all readers to donate whatever they can.

According to a new report, James Holmes actually alerted a psychologist at the University of Colorado to his plans to commit mass murder... only the recipient never opened the package in question.

Fox News says the Colorado shooting suspect mailed a notebook "full of details about how he was going to kill people" to the school's mail room, which is where police and FBI agent found it this week.

“There were drawings of what he was going to do in it - drawings and illustrations of the massacre," an insider with knowledge told Fox, adding that the photos drawn in a spiral-bound notebook’s pages depict a gun-wielding stick figure opening fire on other stick figures.

The package has reportedly been sitting in the mailroom since July 12 and was never delivered to the professor to whom it was addressed. It is now in the hands of the FBI.

While the country continues to mourn the losses incurred inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater last week, and while new information continues to leak out about shooting James Holmes, a debate has also taken shape around America:

Considering the types of automatic weapons Holmes purchased legally, should the topic of gun control be more firmly addressed in light of the latest massacre?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made his feelings on the topic known, as have a number of celebrities.

  • Ice-T Photograph
  • Jason Alexander on Seinfeld

Let's focus on two because they possess such contrasting opinions.

In an interview over the weekend, rapper/actor Ice-T took expressed his take: “The right to bear arms is because it’s the last form of defense against tyranny... If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it.”

He later Tweeted: “If you go into the jungle…. Will you NOT get eaten because you’re a vegan??”

Now, let's hear from Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame, also via Twitter: “I cannot understand support for legality of the kind of weapon in this massacre. It’s a military weapon. Why should it be in non-mil hands?"

Two sides. One contentious issue. Where do YOU stand? Should automatic weapons be made legally available to the public?

Without alerting the press beforehand or making any public statements while there, Christian Bale visited victims of the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado yesterday.

Local reports confirm the actor spent two-and-a-half hours at the Medical Center of Aurora, meeting with seven patients there, according to Bill Voloch, the interim president of the facility.

Added Voloch of the trip: “It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming."

Over the weekend, Bale shared the same sentiments as many others associated with The Dark Knight Rises and said:

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

The Academy Award winner was accompanied by wife Sibi Blazic and also stopped by a growing memorial near the theater, which includes 12 crosses erected for each of the late victims.
