What's in a name? As it turns out, maybe everything.

Since Shakespeare first posited the question in Romeo and Juliet, actors have been using fake names to land professional roles. Not only did it allow them some semblance of privacy before the dawn of Wikipedia, but let's face it, some people just aren't born with great names.

Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Connor? Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta? Quite a mouthful.

If an actor or musician's entire career is dedicated to being someone else - a character or personality, perhaps - then a good stage name can go a long way to making that career explode.

Apparently Christopher Walken wasn't paying attention when his mother told him not to accept rides from strangers.

That turned out to be a cool thing for the two fans who picked him up on the side of a New York street when they saw him trying--and failing--to hail a cab.
