Former Jenny Craig spokeswoman Kirstie Alley may want to get back on that horse. The actress recently put on, oh 10-20 pounds ... give or take 60-70.

When the star - who won an Emmy Award during her seven-year stint on Cheers, but is perhaps better known for her extreme weight gains and losses that followed - stepped on a scale for the first time in 15 months, it wasn't pretty.

"I started screaming," Alley tells People in its new cover story. "It said 228, which is my highest weight ever. I was much more disgusting than I thought!"

But looking back, Kirstie Alley, 58, is hardly shocked.

During her three-year stint as the face (and body) of Jenny Craig, she trimmed down to an impressive 145 lbs. after losing, and keeping off, 75 lbs.

But since parting ways with the company she was so closely tied to in 2007, she had not worked out and banished her gym equipment to the garage.

Obviously.

This celebrity's diet or small, low-calorie portions gave way to Chinese takeout and pasta drenched with butter. "I fell off the horse," she says.

Today, Alley says she is primed to hire a trainer, toss the butter and sign up for a triathlon in order to whittle her "schlumpy" figure back down.

"I'm going to have to work harder than last time," says Allie after candidly admitting she went all Jessica Simpson on us, "but I'm way excited."

In celebrity weight loss news, Rebecca Romijn has dropped nearly 60 pounds after welcoming twins Dolly and Charlie in December - and without a workout plan.

How the heck did she do that, Jessica Simpson our staff wonders?

"Breastfeeding is the very best diet I've been on. It's amazing," she says.

"It's like you have to eat 5,000 extra calories a day or you can't produce enough food for them. So, that's been fun as well."

That's a great tip ... we guess.

"We're working outside of Toronto in Hamilton, which is about an hour away [from where husband Jerry O'Connell and the twins are staying] - and I am still nursing [the babies] around the clock, so, we have to do a lot of milk runs..."

Okay, that's really enough.

"I think within the first three weeks, I took off, like, 35 pounds without doing anything!" she said, adding that the twins keep her too busy to hit the gym.

"I haven't been able to work out that much because I have twins," says the Ugly Betty star. "It's impossible to get back into a regular schedule."

She admits she isn't completely back to her pre-baby body.

"I'm not pretending to be back to the shape I was in beforehand. I still have a ways to go. We've got Spanx underneath almost everything," she says.

Rebecca Romijn is currently filming The Love Child in Canada.

Stop the celebrity weight loss presses.

Alleged singer Jessica Simpson - who has been battling scrutiny for her new curves (and mom jeans, and gigantic booty) so far this year - is back working out.

And she's not a fan.

"On my way to work out with my trainer," she wrote on her Twitter page. "Every time we have to do squats, he yells at me, 'Get lower like you're in the club!'"

Jessica's reply: "I don't squat in the club unless I am peeing!"

This is a fake picture of Jessica Simpson, but a good one.

A source says Simpson, who fancies herself as a sunset, is working with her longtime Mike Alexander, who told Fox last month that the singer wasn't miffed at all the coverage surrounding her fuller figure. Any PR is good PR, right?

"The whole thing wasn't as traumatic for Jessica as everyone made it out to be," he said. "She's a confident and naturally beautiful girl who works hard."

Amen. Follow the jump for a photo progression of Jessica Simpson's weight gain over the years (these pictures are actually real this time, too) ...

As a supermodel, Kathy Ireland was used to seeing pictures of herself retouched to hide her flaws. But a photo of the one-time Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue staple at home recently took her breath away - and not in a good way.

"I didn't recognize the person I saw," said one of the hottest and most successful cover girls of the '80s and '90s, who went on to become a hugely successful CEO. "I saw someone who looked overstressed, overwhelmed and overweight."

Carrie Fisher Pre-Weight Loss

In her latest book, Real Solutions for Busy Moms, Kathy Ireland talks about how mothers in particular tend to put everybody else's needs before their own.

Case in point: she had put on 25 pounds without even realizing it.

Surely Meghan McCain and others can relate. It's not a problem if you aren't rail thin, but sometimes you let yourself go. So what did Kathy do about it?

Kathy Ireland then, now ... and way back then.

"I was not making enough time to take care of me," says Ireland, 46, a mother of three kids and CEO of Kathy Ireland World Wide, a $1.4 billion design empire, and who also runs a mentoring program for single teen mothers.

To get back on track, Ireland enlisted the help of a friend, who happens to be a personal trainer and nutritionist. Thanks to healthier food choices, including cutting down on snacking and desserts, plus three exercise sessions a week.

Does that mean she's ready to rock a bikini, Valerie Bertinelli style?

"No, that's not my goal," says Ireland, who prefers to wear business suits at her job. "I want to be healthy, to be there for my husband and my kids."

Always an attentive celebrity blogger, The City star Whitney Port noticed a lot of questions about her workout routine in comments on her official site lately.

What better way to answer those questions, Whitney thought, than to have her trainer Danny Connolly blog about the exercises he has her do each session.

Better yet, she brought her camera to her training session this week so we could check out all the seriously amazing pics of them in the gym! Like this one:

Okay, so there's not a lot of raw excitement going on ... it's the gym, people. But she still looks great. Jay Lyon, beware - this Danny fella is checking out your girl!

He's probably just making sure she works the right muscles and uses proper form, but you never know. Click to enlarge more photos of Whitney's workout below ...

It seems all the media does is scrutinize the weight of stars.

If Jessica Simpson is seen in an unflattering pair of high-waisted jeans, she's fat. If Beyonce Knowles dons a gown that accentuates her curvy physique, she's fat.

Kim Kardashian will quickly leap to their defense, but it's still sad.

Fortunately, a celebrity story pertaining to weight loss came out today that you can get excited about! At age 48, Valerie Bertinelli has gotten her bikini bod back - and she's showing it off on the latest cover of People magazine.

Valerine Bertinelli Bikini Photo

Valerie Bertinelli has lost 50 pounds as she approaches 50 years.

Of course, it wasn't easy achieving her newly fit physique. It was an uphill battle. In April 2007, the former One Day at a Time star proclaimed, "I'm fat."

She was 5'2", weighed 172 pounds, and vowed to drop from a size 14 to a size 8.

Almost two years later now, the actress is in the best shape of her life after losing more than 50 pounds thanks to exercise and her Jenny Craig diet.

The star, who had last worn a bikini when she was 20, was ready for a new challenge: "I thought, If I'm so afraid of a bikini, there’s something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!," Valerie Bertinelli says in the new article.

And so – after about a year of exercising on her own while losing weight, primarily by walking 10,000 steps a day – she hired a personal trainer in December. Before long, Bertinelli was running up to five times a week and shedding pounds.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Meghan McCain is sick of the debate about her weight.

After the 24-year-old daughter of U.S. Senator and former GOP presidential hopeful John McCain criticized Anne Coulter and other conservatives in an online column, political commentator Laura Ingraham heckled her on her radio show last week.

Ingraham tore into Meghan McCain as "just another Valley Girl gone awry," and even went on to mock McCain in a faux Valley Girl voice, saying that she didn't get a "role in the Real World" because "they don't like plus-sized models."

Ouch. Hitting back on The View today, Meghan McCain said she can't believe Ingraham went after her weight instead of actually talking about the issues.

"What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics, and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican party, and the answer is, 'she's fat, she shouldn't have an opinion?'" she said.

"What kind of message are we sending young women? ... It infuriates me. I'm a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I'm too fat to write?"

"I couldn't possibly imagine how any woman could criticize another woman's weight. I work out at the gym and try and eat healthy, but I'm still a size 8."

Enduring taunts about her body since she was in grade school, Meghan McCain - a vocal campaign supporter of her dad last year - said she is fed up.

"Why are we so obsessed with weight?" she said.

"When Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, 'Kiss my fat ass...' That's what I feel right now. I'm like, 'Kiss my fat ass!'"

Added McCain, "There is no place for weight criticism in 2009."

Amen, Megs. An exchange of bad political ideas shouldn't have to devolve into fat jokes. Click to enlarge more Meghan McCain photos below ...

We've brought you our Plastic Surgery Hall of Fame. Now we present to you our Celebrity Weight Loss Hall of Fame ... or Shame, as it is in many cases.

For every celebrity weight loss success, there is an equal and opposite celebrity weight gain... or celebrity weight loss gone horribly, horribly overboard.

Sometimes stars mean well, but fall off the boat and pack the pounds back on. Other times, they end up trying TOO hard and skipping a meal or 30.

The technical term for the latter is Mischa Barton Syndrome (MBS). Here's a look at the former OC star looking healthy last year and emaciated now ...

Mischa Barton Then and Now

Wow. Looking good, Mischa. When was your last meal, Thanksgiving?

Follow the jump for many more examples of celebrity weight loss winners and losers - those who have either tried way too hard or not hard enough.

NOTE: In the interest of mixing it up a bit, we didn't even include Jessica Simpson - though you can find many, many photos of her on our site!

Now, on to the Hall of Fame and Shamers ...

Britney Spears' father Jamie simply does not get enough credit.

Sure, he gets a solid $1,500 a week in compensation for making sure his daughter doesn't go off the rails. But after the work he's done for humanity, he's underpaid.

Take a look at Britney Spears pics before her conservatorship - giving Jamie control over her personal, financial and professional affairs - took effect and you'll see why ...

Ouch! Yeah. She was a regular Jessica Simpson for a time there.

But luckily, with a little discipline and cutting back on pork rinds and Starbucks consumption, Britney Spears' body - like her career - is back in a big way.

The photos posted yesterday, in which she's rehearsing for her Circus tour, make it abundantly clear that she is in far better shape. Here's a prime example ...

The Ring Leader

Thank you, Jamie.
