Stop us if ya Hurd this one ...

Apparently, Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd was arrested on Wednesday by undercover Homeland Security agents after attempting to set up regular purchases of marijuana and cocaine to expand a drug distribution system he already had going.

The Chicago Sun-Times broke the story earlier.

Hurd, Sam

The Bears said this morning: "We are aware of Sam's arrest and are continuing to gather details. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise."

The former Dallas Cowboys receiver signed a three-year, $5.1 million deal July 29. He has only eight catches this season so far, and has been caught once.

According to reports, Hurd met with an undercover Homeland Security agent to buy 5-10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week.

He would then distribute the narcotics in Chicago, according to his (foiled) plan.

Most stunningly, Hurd said he was already dealing four kilos of cocaine every week in the greater Chicago area with a co-conspirator, but that wasn't cutting it.

The agency believes Hurd committed 21 possible violations of federal statute in a timeline that goes from July of this year through last night's apprehension.

Safe to say, despite his close physical proximity to Tim Tebow last Sunday in the Bears' OT loss to the Denver Broncos, those two ballers are poles apart.

As crazy as this sounds, Amber Portwood should take some cues from Lindsay Lohan.

The Teen Mom train wreck could end up in prison for up to two YEARS after she allegedly violated the terms of her probation - all of them, and repeatedly.

Similar to LiLo, her probation includes ONEROUS tasks such as staying sober in public and not beating up people. Clearly too much to juggle all at once.

Amber Portwood's probation officer claims she committed these violations:

  • Amber Portwood Mugshot
  • Amber Portwood Mug Shot
  • Failure to obtain a GED.
  • Failure to pay probation fees.
  • Failure to set up a $10,000 college fund for her baby daughter.
  • Failure to complete six months of anger control evaluation and classes.
  • Our personal favorite: Failure to behave well in society. Presumably this includes drinking too much and hitting a person at a restaurant last month.

The reason this is all a big deal is that Amber Portwood was given two years in jail after being convicted of beating the crap out of baby daddy Gary Shirley, however Amber's sentence was suspended on the condition that she complete probation. Yeah.

Amber's due back in court for a hearing in January, when she'll have the opportunity to explain herself. She may want to give Shawn Holley a call, STAT.

If NBC was aiming to create headlines with its hiring of Howard Stern as a judge on America's Got Talent, the network can consider its mission accomplished.

Of course, not all headlines are positive, especially not that highlighted by the always-grumpy Parents Television Council.

Referring to Stern as Stern in a statement as "a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity," the PTC added:

"The once-proud broadcast network has lost its way and has made it clear it holds no concern whatsoever for children and families... Not coincidentally, in just over three weeks the network will be standing before the United States Supreme Court arguing for the right to use the F-word at any time of the day, even in front of children."

What do you think of Stern's hiring? Will he make for an acceptable judge?

Country music singer Rodney Atkins is in serious trouble with the law.

On November 21, Atkins was arrested for domestic assault after his wife, Tammy, called 911 and told police her husband was drunk, acting violent and tried to smother her with a pillow. She said the incident took place in front of the couple's 10-year old son.

Atkins, who has since filed for divorce, was booked and later released on $2,500 bail. His attorney acknowledges a "verbal dispute" took place, but dismisses the other allegations as a lie, telling TMZ:

"When Mr. Atkins realized their child was in hearing range of the argument his first priority became getting out of the earshot of the child... Mr. Atkins wants to thank his fans for standing by him as he is confident the truth will prevail."

Thomas Brodnicki is one seriously effed up individual. But at least he seems aware of that fact.

The stalker who has repeatedly threatened the life of Selena Gomez - at one point telling an officer he had "fifty conversations with God about killing Gomez" - actually told a judge today to issue a permanent restraining order against him.

Selena Gomez in Vegas

In sworn declaration, excerpted on TMZ, Brodnicki wrote to a Los Angeles court: "I believe that a restraining order should be issued against me to prevent me from trying to contact Selena Gomez.

"I do not wish to object to the restraining order against me because I know it is the only thing that will make me stay away from Selena."

Brodnicki, 46, was placed on psychiatric hold last month after threatening to "scratch people's eyes out on the street," according to a police report, and telling folks he traveled to Los Angeles to find Selena.

The Cheerios Bee likes to get down and dirty, apparently.

Thanks to some mischievous hacker/vandal, General Mills is scrambling to clean up a PR mess. Its website for kids is supposed to let them create their own Cheerios-themed cartoons, but someone got carried away and made an X-rated one.

Which made it to the top of the popular "Honey Defender" website. See below:

Cheerios

A rep for the cereal company says that, “We have some safeguards that are supposed to keep this from happening, but I guess it wasn’t set up with this game."

Guess not. That bee appears rather aroused.

The rep tells TMZ, "Normally, games where we allow viewers to spell out things themselves have safeguards that tell children they can’t type stuff like that in. Let’s just say this is no longer going to be the 'Hot Comic of the Week' much longer!”

Depending on your definition of hot, what could possibly replace it?

Jerry Sandusky pleaded not guilty inside of a Pennsylvania courtroom today, waiving his right to a preliminary hearing in the process and avoiding any testimony from those who have accused him of child abuse. For now at least.

The disgraced ex-defensive coordinator at Penn State subsequently appeared on the courtroom steps alongside his lawyer, Joseph Amendola, who told the press:

"There will be no plea negotiations. This is a fight to the death."

Amendola added that his client also waived his appearance at the January 11 arraignment and asked for a jury trial.

A handful of alleged victims were present at the court house this morning and prepared to make their claims public , a step they will now take instead some time in 2012.

Said Howard Janet, an attorney for one of the boys who has said he showered with Sandusky: "It would have been apparent from watching those boys and their demeanor that they were telling the truth."

Hulk Hogan has dropped a legal leg drop on his ex-wife.

The former professional wrestler filed a lawsuit against Linda Hogan last week, following allegations in her new memoir that claim the Hulkster abused her physically and carried on a same-sex affair with former WWE star Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake.

A Disgraced Wrestler

"After the four-year crazy divorce I thought I'd heard everything I could hear in the courtroom," Hulk told Us Weekly of his basis for filing the defamation suit. "Then, all of a sudden she says I abused her, that I was violent. She told everybody that I was a homosexual."

Labeling the accusations as "insane," Hulk continued:

If "I was a homosexual I would embrace it. It's just so crazy to hear, so I have a real problem with it... If you're going to say I'm something that I'm not to try to ruin my career and my livelihood... I have to answer her back."

Reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance and is appealing to Major League Baseball, according to reports.

ESPN cited two sources Saturday in first reporting the news, saying the 28-year-old Milwaukee Brewers star tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

A spokesman for Braun said in a statement that "there are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence."

Ryan Braun

"There was absolutely no intentional violation of the program," Matthew Hiltzik said in a statement sent by the four-time All-Star left fielder's representatives.

"Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further."

"we are confident that he will ultimately be exonerated."

The case is still being appealed to an arbitrator under MLB's drug program.

Joshua Komisarjevsky has been sentenced to death following his conviction on 17 counts for the grisly murders of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, and the vicious beating of Dr. William Petit.

The family was infamously slain in Cheshire, Conn.

As the sole survivor in the home invasion, Dr. Petit had been anxiously awaiting the decision in a conference room at the New Haven court with other family members.

"It's not easy," he said before the verdict was announced.

"We have a lot of family here. We have a lot of support."

Komisarjevsky's accomplice, Steven Hayes, was given the death penalty last December and remains in prison awaiting execution by lethal injection in Connecticut.

The jury deliberated for five days before voting Friday to send Komisarjevsky to death row, condemning him to the same fate as his accomplice in the 2007 crime.

The verdict ends two trials that showed jurors grim evidence - charred beds, rope used to tie up the family and autopsy photos taken after the Petit family murders.
