Celebrity Rehab: Shelved By VH1 Amid Criticism, Cast Member Deaths
Dr. Drew’s VH1 Celebrity Rehab center is closed for 2012 and possibly beyond.
The shows drew criticism following the deaths of actor Jeff Conaway and Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr, both of whom recently appeared in the program.
The events prompted a surge of criticism about VH1 and the show, where stars try to get help for their addictions, for not taking serious issues seriously.
Rachel Uchitel was treated for "love addiction," so critics had a point.
VH1 will instead launch Relationship Rehab, which avoids potentially deadly abuse and dependency issues and instead will deal with mending relationships.
VH1 says Rehab is not cancelled and is simply off the schedule due to scheduling issues. Mmm hmm. Dr. Drew, meanwhile, has his new show Lifechangers.
Still, the network aired five seasons of Celebrity Rehab that increased in ratings, hitting 1 million viewers per episode last year, well over VH1's average.
Linda Hogan & Charlie Hill: Off to Relationship Rehab!
Linda Hogan and her 23-year-old fiance boy toy are headed to rehab.
Relationship Rehab. The VH1 spinoff of Celebrity Rehab. Obviously ...
The Hulk's 52-year-old ex-wife apparently has some issues to work out with Charlie Hill, and they've agreed to appear on the upcoming reality show. Taping is underway.
You two kids hang in there now.
Linda and Hulk Hogan finalized their divorce back in 2009, and Charlie Hill, who Linda had been dating since 2008, when he wasn't old enough to buy alcohol.
He proposed a year later. Hulk began dating a Brooke Hogan clone.
Joining them on the new show? DMX and Tashera Simmons, his estranged wife, with whom he is looking to repair their marriage. Should be CAN'T MISS television.
Sadly, the kaput Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have not been asked to join the cast. Now that would be a ratings boost for the fledgling reality telecast.
Eric Roberts on Marijuana: Legalize It!
One year after actor Eric Roberts completed a stint in Celebrity Rehab for marijuana "dependency," he's pushing for its legalization, which will never happen.
Eric, who made news last fall for calling Kate Gosselin a child abuser, says if alcohol is legal, weed should be, given the infallible logic that "Alcohol has destroyed whole civilizations whereas pot has only made a few hippies happy."
Yep. That's all it's ever done. You heard it here first.
Roberts adds that, "Pot remains illegal because no one has figured out how to make it profitable for the government yet ... it's political, not protective."
Back before he sought treatment last year, Eric's wife Eliza explained how the actor "quit drugs and alcohol in 1995" but still had an "interest in weed."
"He uses marijuana as a medication. He has a prescription ... however, a dependency is a dependency and he doesn't want to be dependent on it."
Either way ... should we legalize it?

Jason Wahler Apologizes, Makes Amends With Lauren Conrad
No, this isn't an article from 2007 that we misfiled.
The Hills and Laguna Beach alum Jason Wahler, whose DUI arrests, fights and stints in rehab kept us busy for several years, says he's a changed man.
As such, "I wanted to make amends with Lauren [Conrad]," he tells People. "She was a big part of my life and there's stuff that I needed to address."
A photo from Jason's old daze.
Now 24 and sober for over a year, Wahler currently works in Costa Mesa, Calif., at National Therapeutic Services as a mentor and sober companion.
"It feels good to give back," says Wahler, who recently completed Celebrity Rehab, and contacted Lauren Conrad after feeling comfortable in recovery.
"She's an incredible person and so supportive of anything I do to stay clean," he says. "But the timing had to be right before I reached back out."
Celebrity Rehab Placed on "Indefinite Hiatus"
Looks like this season could be the last for Celebrity Rehab.
The sixth season of the VH1 show is currently airing, with the likes of Michael Lohan, Amy Fisher, and Bai Ling seeking help from the best.
But the doctor who makes it all happen is pulling the plug.
A source says: "The decision was made to put the show on hiatus because Dr. Drew Pinsky is just too busy to continue to do the show."
"Dr. Drew can be seen nightly on HLN's Dr. Drew Show, and this fall, has another project he is going to be involved with, Life Changers."
"In addition to being emotionally grueling, the amount of time Dr. Drew has to commit to treating celebrities is a tremendous amount."
Drew would "absolutely love to revisit doing the show again in the future when he has the time. Dr. Drew really enjoyed doing the show."
Very sad. We just hope Rachel Uchitel can find someone else to treat her "love addiction" now. That's got to be such a brutal affliction.
Amy Fisher Scoffs at Celebrity Rehab, Looks Totally Different
We don't admire Amy Fisher for shooting her lover's wife in the face in 1992.
Nor are we really on board with the Long Island Lolita's move into porn.
However, we can't help but applaud Fisher, a cast member on the upcoming season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, but admitting that show is a total farce.
"I don't need rehab," Fisher tells Entertainment Tonight in a new interview, the screen shots from which are posted above. "But I think I made for an interesting cast member."
That pretty much says it all about reality TV, doesn't it?
Elsewhere, compare the recent looks of Fisher. We'd ask whether or not she underwent plastic surgery, but what's the point? That would be akin to asking readers if Kim Kardashian is a productive member of society.
Michael Lohan Anchors New Cast of Celebrity Rehab
Just what we need: more Michael Lohan in our lives.
As previously reported, the man who actually makes us feel sorry for Lindsay Lohan leads the new cast of VH1's I've Officially Shed All Inhibitions and Morals in the Name of Publicity! Celebrity Rehab.
The network announced the full list of participants today (below), though it did not say for what addictions they will seek Dr. Drew's help. Hopefully, love is no longer an option...
- Dwight Gooden
- Amy Fisher
- Steven Adler
- Bai Ling
- Jessica "Sugar" Kiper
- Jeremy Jackson
Season five of this degrading hit returns on June 26 and will focus on the new patients' 21-day rehab program at Drew Pinsky's Pasadena Recovery Center.
Oscar De La Hoya Enters Rehab
Oscar De La Hoya has met an opponent he can't knock down with a single punch: substance abuse.
The legendary boxer has entered a rehab facility, sources tell TMZ, entering a program a couple weeks ago in California.
De La Hoya retired in 2009 and has since become a successful promoter. His recent Tweets hinted that something was amiss, as the athlete wrote: "Stop finding excuses not to live. life is controlled by what you make of it and not of what it makes of you."
We wish him a full recovery.

Seann William Scott Enters Rehab
Seann William Scott, the fun-loving actor who rose to fame in the American Pie franchise, has entered a treatment facility.
Says the star's rep in a statement: "Seann William Scott has voluntarily admitted himself for proactive treatment to address health and personal issues. He appreciates the support of his many fans at this time."
Forever beloved as Stifler, Scott most recently appeared in Cop Out and will play a role in Movie 43 later this year.
We wish him a full recovery.
Lindsay Lohan on Visiting Dad in Rehab: NAH!
This past Sunday was "family day" in VH1's Celebrity Rehab.
Astonishingly, Michael Lohan's stood him up in that piece.
The drama began when MiLo "wanted Lindsay, Ali, and the rest of the family to come for family day," says a source. "Michael even wanted Dina to come."
"They all refused, they don't want to appear on camera in that setting, period."
"Michael grew very upset. Emotions were very raw for him. Soon, thereafter, all hell broke out between other patients and families," the insider said.
Viewers will be in for "quite a shock when it airs," the source says.
Dr. Drew "handled the mayhem with pure professionalism, as he always does," despite all he has on his plate (the Michaele Salahi debacle, etc).
Celebrity Rehab 5 is set to premiere in May on VH1. As for what brought MiLo to the show? Anger issues. Yes, he's addicted to rage. And fame.
