Ryan Lewis - the hip hop producer best known for his work with Macklemore - revealed today that his mother is HIV positive.

Ryan Lewis and Mother

Lewis made the announcement today via Twitter in a statement that also includes a link to donate to the 30/30 Project - an HIV/AIDS research charity that he founded with help from Macklemore.

In his statement, the Grammy winner revealed that his mother contracted the illness after receiving a blood transfusion in 1984.

At that time, little was known about HIV and Julie Lewis' prognosis was grim. She pulled through, however, and the name of Ryan's foundation is a tribute to his mother's 30 years of survival.

Lewis concluded his statement by saying, "I am honored to be the first donor to the 30/30 Project...I am asking you to join my family and see how far we can take this."

Earlier this year, a mother cat called Lurlene "adopted" a pit bull puppy called Noland and nursed the little canine back to health after he was abandoned.

A humane officer stumbled upon the day-old pit bull covered in fleas in a Cleveland garage, and took the dog to the Cleveland Animal Protective League.

There, the group decided to place Noland with Lurlene, who had also just been taken off the streets and had recently given birth to four baby kittens.

Cat and Puppy

Molly, Noland's mother, was discovered later that day looking anxious and famished. She was unable to care for Noland herself, so he stayed with Lurlene.

He made it through those difficult first few weeks. Eventually, he was placed in a foster home with puppies his age where he learned how to be a dog.

He still visits his "mother" and "siblings" on occasion, however.

Kim Kardashian is going on the offensive.

The reality star understands she may get criticized from time to time, and she tries hard to ignore most of the haters.

But she went off on a Twitter user who criticized her parenting last week - and now she's done the same to all critics who called Kim out for her recent eBay auction that benefited typhoon disaster relief in the Philippines.

As a quick refresher:

The X-Files star Gillian Anderson poses in a stunning, revealing photo for the BLOOM & Fishlove campaign, which seeks to end destructive fishing practices.

Anderson, 45, posed topless for the shoot with an eel covering her chest. Check out the woman many will always know as Scully like you've never seen her:

The actress has been very active on Twitter, where she has nearly 80,000 followers, in pushing her various charities and causes, Fishlove included.

The Fishlove petition Anderson supports states:

"Amazing animals that live in the deep ocean are being systematically destroyed by massive fishing nets that catch or crush everything in their path."

"But in days, the European Parliament could vote to protect one of the world’s most precious deep-sea habitats - and we need to give them the public mandate to do it."

Kim Kardashian is doing her part to help those affected by last week's deadly typhoon in the Philippines.

Her pretty small part, that is.

The reality star announced on her blog Thursday that she's auctioning off clothing on eBay, with the money raised being sent to a charity that benefits those in this ravaged area.

A very good idea and a very good cause, right? Absolutely.

Veteran's Day is this coming Monday, which serves as a fitting backdrop for this amazing time lapse video of a homeless U.S. Army veteran's transformation.

Jim Wolf has battled homelessness and alcoholism, but thanks to Dégagé Ministries, he recently had the opportunity to overcome those formidable obstacles.

Wolf's change in appearance is truly stunning, and is not merely superficial. The charity group's efforts also inspired him to turn his life around for the better.

He's now attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and sober for the first time he can remember, an example of how it's never too late for a change.

The three-minute video was produced by Rob Bliss Creative to raise money and awareness for the non-profit dedicated to assisting people like Jim.

Dégagé Ministries "offers help and hope to homeless and disadvantaged individuals," according to its fundraising page. Clearly, they're doing a good job.

An Illinois dad who discovered something repulsive - a Facebook spam page exploiting his sick daughter for Likes - responded in amazing fashion.

Sean Murphy took to the page, which is described as a "social content farm," and managed to raise money for the hospital that saved her life.

A picture he posted online that shows his little girl, Serafina, recovering from heart surgery, was used to bolster the advertising revenue of a page called Starteens.

Pretty awful. But the University of Illinois law student simply went on the page and asked readers to donate money to the hospital instead of "Liking" anything.

As a result, he raised thousands of dollars for the medical facility.

Ryan Anderson fought through tears Monday discussing his girlfriend Gia Allemand's death in August and saying he plans to start a foundation in her honor.

Anderson, who plays for the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, opened up during the team's media day, telling reporters he hadn't planned to talk about it.

He obliged and took questions, however, and tearfully said "we have a huge plan to do something great in her name that's going to help a lot of people."

Gia Allemand, who was a reality star on The Bachelor and Bachelor Pad, attempted to commit suicide in August after a bitter fight with Ryan Anderson.
