Carrie Underwood did her best to steal - and host - the show at the CMA Awards last night, moonlighting as a and female vocalist nominee (not surprisingly).

She started off the night in style, in a platinum jeweled Theia gown, one of many dresses she wore for the occasion. The life of a host can be quite hectic!

Meanwhile it might have been the Country Music Awards, but LeAnn Rimes went Hollywood glam in her elegant white ruched gown and deep smoky eyes.

All she needs is a full-blown sex scandal and she'll have really gone Hollywood on us. Oh wait, we forgot about the whole Eddie Cibrian thing. Sorry girl.

As one of the few celebrities who likes to keep her personal life guarded, Carrie Underwood rarely gives us insight into her relationship with NHL star Mike Fisher.

Much as we'd like to know more, we can appreciate this.

The country star made a rare public declaration of love for Fisher this week, though, giving the hockey player a shout-out on the liner notes of her new CD, Play On.

"Thank you #12," she writes to Mike Fisher in the notes, referring to the Ottawa Senators center's jersey number. "You are the most amazing addition to my life!"

"You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day... xoxo, Carrie."

All together now ... Awwww.

If Carrie Underwood loves Mike Fisher, then so do we!

Though the couple have mostly remained under the radar, recently they've been more open (a little more open) about their nearly year-long relationship.

Carrie, who is hosting a two-hour variety show on Fox December 7, has not gone totally out of her way to dodge questions (and cameras) as she once did.

Last month Fisher talked to The Sens Show, an online news program for his team, saying the busy twosome work hard to spend their free time together.

"Obviously it's tough with our schedules to see each other," he said at the time of his American Idol-winning love. "But we find a way to make it work."

True love always does find a way. Sniff.

FOX made Carrie Underwood a star on the fourth season of American Idol. Or at least broadcast it when she made herself a country star on that very program.

How the network is giving Carrie her own two-hour variety special!

The star will host Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton and fellow American Idol winner David Cook on the December 7 show, produced by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe.

The big Carrie Underwood television broadcast will be tentatively titled Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

After selling 10 million albums and winning four Grammys, Underwood will sing her hits and new songs, as well as perform in comedy skits on the show.

While the Carrie Underwood show is a one-time event, the Reporter says the networks are looking to revive the once-popular (and cheap) variety format.

This is best evidenced by the creation of the Jay Leno Show every night at 10 p.m. on NBC, but also by CBS' John Mayer pilot, which is now in the works.

That will be called The Douchebag Hour. Just kidding. Sort of.

It may be impossible to find two more contrasting celebrities than Carrie Underwood and Carmen Electra.

The former is downright gorgeous, talented and controversy-free.

You might not wanna take the latter home to meet your mother, conversely, as she lacks any productive skills and has more marriages on her resume than Carrie has number-one hits.

Still, never underestimate the power of fashion to bring people together.

Plenty of stars can throw out the first pitch at a Dodgers game, but to actually suit up and play a full game is another story. Carrie Underwood did the latter at the 19th Celebrity Softball Challenge at Nashville's Greer Stadium on Wednesday.

The singer (who played for the Grand Ole Opry team) got in the swing of things (har har) with other country stars like Vince Gill and Montgomery Gentry, and looks like she's ready to go all "Before He Cheats" on a pitch in the photo below.

Although she's kept quiet since first being romantically linked with Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher last month, Carrie Underwood publicly cheered for her boyfriend when his team took on her hometown Nashville Predators Monday.

Sitting in a private box in Nashville's Sommet Center, Underwood gripped the edge of her seat as he scored an assist and grimaced as Fisher was checked hard.

At one point, Fisher appeared to look up in her direction and the singer smiled back at him. Ah, to be young, in love and dating a professional hockey player.

It wasn't all fun and games, though. The 25-year-old American Idol champ was briefly shown on the scoreboard for the entire arena to see, and after noticing the cameras were on her, she quickly (and hilariously) tried to take cover ...
