In many ways, rappers are like professional athletes:

They're fiercely competitive; many view their talent as their only way to escape awful circumstances; they often experience success at a very young age...and they're frequently broke before they hit their mid-twenties.

And we're not even talking about the Vanilla Ices and MC Hammers whose riches to rags stories have become industry-wide cautionary tales.

Lil Kim
There's nothing lil about Kim's debt. The legendary femcee owes more than $2.5 million to her former record label and $1million to the goverment.

Many rappers who are still bragging about their wealth in club-banger verses have squandered sums greater than the GDPs of some small island nations.

Naturally, lots of celebrities go broke as their star begins to fade and they struggle desperately to continue living the lavish lives to which they've become accustomed, but rappers seem particularly vulnerable to the "spend fast, go bankrupt young" mentality.

Bow Wow is apparently engaged to Love & Hip-Hop cast member Erica Mena, not even six months after the musical couple began dating one another.

She confirmed the surprising and exciting news herself over the weekend.

Bow Wow and Erica Mena

Walking the red carpet into Saturday night's 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards, Erica Mena was asked by a reporter if Bow Wow was indeed her boyfriend.

"Uhh ... he's actually my fiance," she revealed. Well, that answers that!

Once she let that cat out of the bag, both Bow Wow and Mena posted matching photos on Instagram of her bling and thanked fans for the happy wishes.

The duo first met when Mena stopped by BET's 106 & Park, where Bow Wow serves as a host, and shared a kiss on the famous couch. Ah, true love.

The couple then began a real relationship, which escalated quickly!

Earlier this summer, Rob Kardashian Tweeted that he has a son.

The actor was kidding (we think), but plenty of male celebrities face the very serious issue of having a child out of wedlock.

From rappers... to DJs... to basketball players... to whatever the heck Scott Disick does for a living, most of these stars have taken responsibility for their actions, while hopefully offering up a lessons to fans around the world:

Don't cheat. Do use protection. And put a ring on the finger of Kourtney Kardashian if you wish to be categorized differently. Sheesh!

Pauly D produced a daughter named Amabella after a one-night stand with a native of New Jersey. He is active in his child's life.

Bow Wow has responded to rumors that he's being dismissed as co-host of BET's 106 & Park, taking to Twitter to address chatter regarding his alleged ouster.

"@HipHopture: @YMCMB_BW clear it for fans bro !! Clear what? That ill see yall at 6pm tomorrow live on TV like i do err day whats changed?" Bow Wow wrote.

"In my closet at @106andpark now doing my Ebony Magazine photo shoot. Theres some things that can be stopped, but my hustle is in motion our plan is to take over the world!"

There you have it.

Rumors about the rapper receiving a pink slip surfaced this week, citing the increasing tension between the star and his superiors at the network.

"He want people to start calling him Bow Wow, but still acting like he got the 'Lil' in front of his name" says an exec claiming BW was escorted off the premises.

Kate Upton's new commercial collaboration with Snoop Dogg (Lion) for Hot Pockets is so bad it's good. It helps that it features Kate Upton, but still.

That's right, the SI model makes eating the dinner/snack super sexy in a new video, a remix of Biz Markie's 1989 hit single "Just a Friend (You Got What I Need)."

This one? "You Got What I Eat."

Snoop, 41, and Kate, 20, croon about devouring the meaty, buttery, crusty feast while cavorting through dreamy scenarios. Larry King is also involved.

Check it out for yourself below:

This video has "they flyest girl in it with me," says Snoop in a release about the ad, referring to Kate Upton. Truer words have never been spoken, Mr. Lion.

Brand manager Kevin Holmes says the pairing was the perfect pick to help "celebrate the biggest re-launch in our brand's 30-year history."

It was a bit mouth-watering ...

Bow Wow has been sued by a French adult film star for allegedly stealing footage of her dancing and using it in one of his videos without her consent.

We use the term "dancing" loosely of course.

Celine Tran, a.k.a. "Katsuni," sued Bow Wow last year, claiming he stole clips of her working the pole in a video for a French band called Electronic Conspiracy.

She then appears in his video for "Drank in My Cup."

It's safe to say that Bow Wow is no Frank Ocean.

While the latter came out as bisexual in a Tumblr entry last month, the rapper is just a slight bit angry over a Twitter prank this week that implied he was a homosexual.

For a brief period of time, the following picture appeared on Bow Wow's account. It speaks for itself:

Bow Wow Twit pic

The image has since been deleted and the perpetrator - a Twitter user who goes by the handle "@7_I_Am" - identified, but Bow Wow won't rest until the dude pays the price for daring to make such a suggestion.

“i got 2500$ to any Detroit n*gga that finds @7_I_Am and slaps the piss outta dis n*gga," Bow Wow Tweeted in response to the joke.

Do we approve of computer hacking? No. But should Bow Wow calm the heck down and perhaps not come across as such a giant homophobe? Probably.

Bow Wow may not be Lil Bow Wow anymore, but he's in a Lil trouble with the federal government over some back taxes. Like more than 90 grand worth.

A tax lien filed in Florida by the U.S. government says the rapper owes Uncle Sam $91,105.61 to be exact for unpaid taxes dating back to the year 2006.

Bow Wow took to his blog to dispute the report of his financial troubles, calling it “not true,” and advising his fans not to believe celebrity gossip outlets.

Bow Chicka Bow Wow

“We all know not to believe anything that the media writes or blogs,” Bow Wow wrote. “It’s their job to entertain the minds of the simple minded.” Deep.

He urged fans to ignore the report and turn their attention to the release of his now delayed album Underrated. Gotta pay down those debts somehow!

“Stay away from them damn blogs its bad for your health,” he then wrote.

“Remember Ima always keep it 100 with yall and let yall know the real on anything I got going on even if its bad if it’s the truth I'll own up to it.”

It's true. He proved it when he admitted fatherhood and suicidal thoughts.

Bow Wow is a father.

The rapper made this admission in a rambling note on his official website, going into detail about why he kept the truth of his three-year old daughter, Shia, from fans and even saying he contemplated suicide at one point.

"For the past 3 years i been batteling life," Bow Wow says. "Even thought about taking my own. I felt like as a kid i did everything and saw everything too fast which spoiled my adult years. I felt as if i had no purpose to live(Thinking selfishly) until god gave me the illest gift of my life. No lambo, no blk card nuffn ammounts to my lil girl...

"I waited so long to tell yall the truth because i was nervous on how yall would look at me."

The mother of Bow Wow's child is reportedly named Joie Chavis. Below, we've posted more thoughts from this artist on fatherhood and neva trippin about baby mama BS...

Chris Brown took a break from chilling with Usher and being a complete tool to set the record straight, sort of, on pal Bow Wow's channel.

The unintentionally funny video kicks off with a plug. His new album is called Graffiti, and a new single drops this summer, so "be ready for dat."

Then comes this disclaimer about the haters: "Everybody that’s haters, they just been haters. All my real fans, I love you all. I ain’t a monster."

The L.A. District Attorney's office, if it ever tries the star on the felony assault and criminal threats charges he faces, will ultimately decide that.

Still no apology or real explanation on why he went Pitbull on Rihanna that night in February, but here's Chris Brown's lame video shout-out ...

It gets better still. In a second video, Brown calls celebrity gossip blogs liars for saying he had a black eye recently. (As for Rihanna's battered face, after he beat her brains out, leaving her unconscious in a car, Chris conveniently had no comment).

The insightful transcript of the second clip:

Chris Brown: All the blog sites are liars. You guys lie. [points to face] No black eyes! You guys are liars.
Bow Wow: Liars, Liars, Liars! Yeeeeeah!

Amazingly, Brown may actually be a bigger moron than previously thought. His lawyer is surely going to be thrilled about this awesome declaration.
