Diane Sawyer Drunk vs. Anderson Cooper Drunk: An Alcoholic Anchor Face-Off!

Diane Sawyer will succeed Charlie Gibson as anchor of ABC's World News in January, making her the second woman to hold the lead role on a network newscast.

The move, announced today by ABC, will leave a sizable void at Good Morning America, and has triggered renewed interest in one of Diane's classic moments.

Here's Diane Sawyer, drunk (or on really strong cold meds), at President Obama's inauguration in January in what may be the height of unintentional comedy:

But, just so we aren't accused of ripping on Diane Sawyer exclusively, here's another apparently drunk newscaster broadcasting that same day - Anderson Cooper:

Anderson Cooper Bashes Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt Responds in Statement

Move over, Al Roker. Another TV journalist has taken hilarious, cheap shots at Heidi Montag and sparked venomous a retort from her slimy husband Spencer.

Earlier this week, CNN's Anderson Cooper called the recent Miss Universe performance by Heidi - whoever she is - a "fresh new way to embarrass herself."

With a clip of the epic crap-fest playing in the background, Cooper said he doesn't know "who this person is, nor why she is pretending to be a singer, nor why anyone should actually listen to her, but apparently, she's famous." Point, AC!

In reference to Heidi thanking God after her performance, Cooper said that "I really don't think God had anything to do with this. If God had time to work on this production, if this is the best God can do, then we're all in trouble."

He also noted that Heidi could not remember the lyrics to her own song ... while lip-synching. Classic, and quite true. But Spencer Pratt was not amused.

"Between health care, CIA interrogation techniques and the economy, I think it's funny how the Silver Coyote spent four minutes discussing someone who he claims to not know exists," Spencer said, even though it was closer to one minute.

Pratt added that Cooper is "trying to get a piece of Speidi's fame."

"It's our pleasure to help out anyone whose ratings are in need," Spencer said. "We appreciate every second people spend talking about the greatest performance in television history, which over a billion people saw."

EDITOR'S NOTE: A billion people did not watch. Six million did in the U.S., plus a few million more elsewhere. So he's right, give or take 990 million.

Why let facts stand in the way of a good press release, right Spencer? Then again, he also compared her to Michael Jackson earlier this week. Sigh.

Here's Anderson Cooper's commentary on Heidi's "singing" ...

Anderson Cooper Grills Jillian Harris

Sure, it's kind of the nature of The Bachelorette, but Anderson Cooper did not hold back when asking Jillian Harris about juggling so many men on the show.

Filling in on Good Morning America, AC sat down with Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski to discuss the just-completed fifth season of the ABC reality series.

His first question: "How many men did you have sex with?"

Clearly uncomfortable with the line of questioning, Ed Swiderski tried to defer to his fiancee, and said that like everything else in life, "you get used to it."

Jill didn't bite on some of the more risque questions, but did give us a little insight into all the kissing that went on over the course of three months.

Jillian Harris: "I kissed, um, 10 guys, but only four of them with tongue."
Anderson Cooper: "You know what, I just threw up in my mouth."

Check out a portion of the funny, awkward interview below ...

Anderson Cooper: Tea-Bagging is a Mouthful

Over the last several days, Republicans have been engaging in anti-tax tea-bagging parties, meant to demonstrate their displeasure with Barack Obama daring to do away with George W. Bush's tax code.

We won't mock the lunacy of these gatherings. Instead, we'll focus on the fodder such "tea-bagging" shindigs have provided for late-night talk show hosts and news anchors.

Anderson Cooper joined the fun on Tuesday.

At the end of a conversation with David Gergen, the director of the Center for Public Leadership, the political operative said the Republican party is in a position of weakness and is "'searching for their voice."

How could Cooper ignore such a set-up? He replied: "It's hard to talk when you're tea-bagging."

Was Anderson Cooper's tea-bagging joke out of line?

Kathy Griffin Gets 2009 Off to a Good Start

Mmm. Yeah. Kathy Griffin will probably not be asked back to host New Year's Eve festivities on CNN next year, we're going out on a limb and guessing.

One minute, viewers are admiring Anderson Cooper's dashing good looks and listening to him talk about his favorite show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

The next? Kathy Griffin is screaming at a drunk guy heckling her on the street. While she had a decent comeback, you don't hear this on TV too much ...

Michael Lohan to Anderson Cooper: Pi$$ Off!

The war of words between Michael Lohan and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper doesn't appear to be going away - or getting any less funny.

While guest-hosting Live with Regis & Kelly, Anderson Cooper went off the Lohans, calling their reality show, Living Lohan, a "train wreck."

No argument here. But then he offered up this quote re: Ali Lohan:

"Allegedly a 14-year-old girl, who looks to be about 60, and I say that with concern and love," Anderson said of Lindsay's younger sister.

"She allegedly wants to be a singer and or actor-slash-performer of some sort ... striptease person, I don't even know."

Ali's mother, Dina Lohan, fired back at the CNN newsman, telling OK! Magazine, "People are just cruel! This is bad karma for him."

Rather than letting this fizzle out and moving on to something important, Anderson Cooper kept the war of words going on his show, AC360:

"Let me just reiterate, I feel bad for the 14-year-old daughter. She seems like a nice person, but she should be a kid, not in a [reality show]," he said.

That's when Ali Lohan's father, and Dina's ex, Michael Lohan, came to the teenager's defense, sounding off to Access Hollywood about the anchor:

"I think Anderson Cooper is an opinionated, hypocritical idiot who should be an adult and keep his opinion to himself. He is the last person to judge anyone, when he and his own family have their own issues."

Snap! Seems like AC is just calling it like he sees it - but did he go too far?
