Considering Justin Bieber was named Artist of the Year, it's safe to say the American Music Awards skewed toward a younger generation last night.

But try telling that to Bon Jovi. The veteran band is releasing a Greatest Hits album this winter, replete with four new songs. It performed one of them at the ceremony over the weekend, transitioning from "What Do You Got?" to  ''You Give Love a Bad Name'' and ''It's My Life."

It was an impressive display from one of the world's most legendary bands. Check out Jon and friends in video and in photographs now:

Ke$ha treated viewers of the American Music Awards to a typical live performance last night:

Poor singing, unusual outfits and many visual effects.

Indeed, this singer will never have the vocal range of Christina Aguilera (on display at the AMAs HERE) nor the emotional depth of Taylor Swift (as evidenced by this performance), but that's not what Ke$a is aiming for. She just wants to entertain. You tell us: Did she accomplish that goal at the this event?

We love Katy Perry personally and think some of her songs are really catchy, but her live singing skills were a bit suspect at the American Music Awards.

It's hard to watch her rendition of "Firework" (below) and not think that, but that's just our opinion. What do you think? Did she knock it out of the park?

In her defense, at least she TRIED to sing live, which is more than we can say for some of the no-talent hacks who masquerade as musicians. Also, the boys' choir was a nice touch, and that tear-away dress? An even nicer touch ...

Who knew one stage to hold so much cuteness?

At last night's American Music Awards, Justin Bieber may have won big and Rihanna may have opened impressively, but the show closed with the the official formation of NKOTBSB.

That's right, folks, The New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys performed a medley of hits together, giving fans a preview of their upcoming 2011 summer tour. From "Step By Step" to "I Want It That Way," viewers were transported to a more innocent era, one we didn't even realize we missed until these iconic groups took us back in time...

Just days removed from releasing her new album, Loud, Rihanna was tasked with opening the American Music Awards, which she said was "a lot of pressure."

Her seven-minute performance - a medley of "Love the Way You Lie Part II," new song "What's My Name?" and "Only Girl in the World" - certainly delivered.

After beginning a cappella on "Love the Way You Lie," the Barbadian star turned the performance into an island-themed extravaganza you can watch here:

She's nothing if not versatile.

Fergie made quite an entrance at Sunday's American Music Awards. Then she changed into an even sexier number for the Black Eyed Peas' performance!

The Peas, along with Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, were among the big winners at the AMAs. Which one of Fergie's fashion choices was the winner? Vote:

  • Fergie in Blue
  • Fergie in Silver

Fergie's best dress at the AMAs was ...

Christina Aguilera used the American Music Awards as a platform for her upcoming movie, Burlesque.

You can watch a clip from that upcoming musical HERE, and can also be treated to a preview of a song off its soundtrack below.

The newly-single singer belted out "Express” during the event, which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The tune is courtesy of this November 24 release, co-starring Cher and featuring Aguilera in her first big screen role. Watch the following video and then check out stills of Christina performing:

It was a good night for Taylor Swift at the American Music Awards.

While the singer didn't dominate the evening like a certain shaggy-haired 16-year old, she was named the top Female Country Artist on the planet. Swift also performed her single "Back to December," mixing in a bit of One Republic’s “Apologize" with the ballad.

Watch the following video of this critically acclaimed performance and then click on photos of Taylor on stage at the event:

While Justin Bieber won Artist of the Year at last night's American Music Awards, the Black Eyed Peas proved themselves worthy of their Best Pop/Rock Group title as well. Their performance of "This Time (The Dirty Bit)" was ... something else.

Something else is the only way to put it.

The Peas Perform

There's no comparison to the flashy, glow-in-the-dark spectacle accompanying their new single, which borrows the chorus of the Dirty Dancing theme song, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," as will.i.am and Fergie crooned to throughout.

It was the freestyle dance moves and dancers wearing box-shaped headpieces that really stole the show, though. At the end, will.i.am plugged the band's new album, saying, "November 30, The Beginning. Welcome to the future!"

Bring it on. Watch their performance after the jump!

Miley Cyrus did not win any American Music Awards last night.

But the singer did win over the crowd with a rendition of "Love and Forgiveness," a song off the album "Can't Be Tamed." Multiple sources confirm Miley originally planned to cover “Every Rose Has Its Thron” on stage, but made a last-minute switch due to a certain rumor.

Probably the right choice, don't you think? Check out the following video of Cyrus in action, followed by a trio of performance photos:
