Who let the Dawg back in?

Just a couple months after resigning his post as an American Idol judge, Randy Jackson is reportedly on his way back to the show that made him famous:

Reports indicate he will take over for Jimmy Iovine as competition's ongoing contestant mentor in 2014.

Give American Idol points for trying.

According to a couple new reports, the Fox competition tried to get Kanye West as a new judge... but he turned down the offer because he believes the show to be too mainstream.

Producers then moved on to Diddy... but he also showed Idol the back of his hand because ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez is returning to the panel and... well, that's just awkward.

The rapper "felt it was a 'her or me' situation," a source tells Us Weekly, which is actually sort of comforting.

Now this would have made for some serious must-see TV.

According to an Us Weekly insider, Kanye West was offered a seat at the American Idol judging table for next year, only to turn it down for the most ironic of reasons:

"He didn't want to go that mainstream," the source tells the tabloid "He didn't want to lose any street cred."

In related news: Kanye will appear on Kris Jenner's talk show this Friday.

West, it seems, has been constantly wrestling with his role as the boyfriend of Kim Kardashian, someone who lives solely for media attention.

He's fought with the paparazzi, bristled over the release of North West photos and seems to not realize just who the heck he knocked up.

First-ever American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini raised eyebrows with an alarming blog post this week in which he says he has to skip meals to feed his kids.

Justin Guarini, Son

The singer, who came in second to Kelly Clarkson in 2002, remembers the days when "I couldn't walk the street without being stopped a hundred times."

Life these days is much different, and even involves "skipping meals in order to make sure I have enough. To make sure my children and my wife have enough."

While his costar in 2003's From Justin to Kelly has gone on to win Grammys and sell 20 million albums worldwide, Guarini battles to make ends meet.

"I'm unafraid to say that I am terrified," the 34-year-old writes. "I am struggling to make each day meet the next without breaking down and curling up."

Casper Smart is not living up to his surname, but we thank him.

After months of speculation about whether Jennifer Lopez would really be returning as a judge on American Idol, her boy toy let the cat out of the bag.

Casper Smart, J. Lo

Casper was asked by E! News, during a chat about his new show A Step Away for nuvoTV, whether Lopez will be back on the panel for Season 13.

Smart's response? "Yes."

Apparently Smart thought that Fox had already announced this. No Casper, that was all you man. You may be in the doghouse, but much appreciated!

Are you ready to welcome Jennifer Lopez back to the judges' table, American Idol fans?

Following a dismally rated season - and amidst talk that Adam Lambert or Kelly Clarkson will be joining Jennifer Hudson as a panelist in 2014 - an insider tells People that Lopez  is "very close" to signing a new deal with the show.

American Idol suddenly has a lot more to worry about than who will join Jennifer Hudson at the judging table next season.

Ten ex-contestants, all of whom are African-American, have filed a lawsuit against the show, charging it with racism and discrimination and seeking at least $25 million… apiece.

The contestants (names listed below) contend the series acted in a "cruel and inhumane" way by producing their arrest records and making them appear like "violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants," according to the case's lead attorney.

It didn't receive the same fanfare as Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson leaving - but Nigel Lythgoe was removed as producer of American Idol last week.

And as the Fox competition looks to regain its ratings foothold, Lythgoe has come out with a statement confirming his departure.

American Idol Standing O

“It has been a tremendous honor to launch and build American Idol”over the course of a decade and to see it recognized with 51 nominations and 6 Emmy Awards including the Academy’s highest honor, the Governors Award," Lythgoe said.

Fox is not sitting and letting American Idol die a quiet death.

With Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey all out as judges - and Keith Urban's bags as good as packed - The Wrap has confirmed that producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick have also been let go.

Both have presided over Idol since its inception, though Lythgoe left for two years in 2008.

American Idol Team

The competition flopped in Season 12, falling to season low ratings and losing its timeslot to The Big Bang Theory among 18-49-year olds.

No word yet on who will replace Lythgoe and Warwick, though let's hope they don't bring Motown Night and other tired themes with them.

As part of the show's major shake-up, Jennifer Hudson is reportedly in as judge, with Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert possibly on deck.
