Many singers rocked in Detroit last night, as American Idol aired one of the more impressive early audition episodes in recent memory.

But a certain hipster in glasses truly stood out in our eyes, partly because Ryan Nisbett used to weigh over 300 pounds (amazing when you see him now) and mostly because of what Jennifer Lopez said after he sang "Angel."

“No guy has ever come in and sounded like that,” the judge gushed.

Harry Connick Jr. added that Nisbett possesses an “incredibly unique voice” and just hopes people will "give that a chance in the context of "American Idol."

You can give it a chance now. Watch the talented young man's audition:

American Idol revved up its audition engine and touched down in Detroit last night, a city known for cars, bankruptcy… and great music.

Did the aspiring singers on Season 13 live up the Motor City reputation? Yes, actually. We only heard one "no" through the show's first half hour or so, in fact.

That's unheard of!

But which on the "yes" side truly stood out? Who might actually go on to be the next American Idol? Let's count down the Top 5, shall we?

It's early, but American Idol Season 13 already has a big problem:

These judges are way too likable. They're funny, they're relaxed, they share great chemistry, they can be honest when need be.

Where the Nicki and Mariah-like feuding? The Randy-ish repetitiveness? How are we able to be snark when the show has actually been pretty entertaining throughout two audition episodes?

This week, Idol finished off its Austin showcase and then took off for San Francisco, where the panelists listened to A LOT of White Guys With Guitars.

And where Harry Connick Jr. continued to be awesome.

They both introduced new characters, they were both heavily promoted... and they both tanked in the ratings.

American Idol and Duck Dynasty returned to the airwaves last night, but the returns weren't especially triumphant.

Idol, for example, garnered 15 million total viewers, but only a 4.5 rating among 18-49-year olds, which set a record low for the series. This, despite America falling in love with Harry Connick, Jr.

Duck Dynasty Season 5, meanwhile, introduced viewers to Rebecca Robertson.

But the opener was down 3.5 million total households from its Season 4 premiere a year ago. Among the aforementioned key demographic, ratings fell by 33 percent.

Could fans have been turned off by the Phil Robertson controversy? It's possible.

Watch Duck Dynasty online now if you failed to catch either of the return episodes last night.

American Idol is a singing show that comes down to its contestants.

That's what we're told year after year by producers, but we came away from last night's Season 13 premiere with one thoughts:

The new judge was harsh and honest when he needed to be. But also a total jokester throughout, most notable when he cradled Munfarid Zaidi in his arms (below) during the hopeful's audition.

Ah yes, there were plenty of auditions.

Kaitlyn Jackson got American Idol Season 13 off to a very strong start this week.

The 15-year old New Jersey native sang an original song she wrote in honor of her grandfather, who suffered a heart attack while watching the aspiring singer perform at a recent county fair.

Jackson's grandfather survived that incident, but passed away before Kaitlyn could blow away Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban with "Another Angel."

“I can start the voting process by saying 100 percent absolutely,” Connick said in response, to which both other panelists agreed.

And for good reason. Be impressed and inspired by Kaitlyn Jackson now:

Come on, Mariah Carey. Tell us how you really feel about Nicki Minaj.

In an interview today with Angie Martinez of Hot 97, the artist reflected on her single season behind the judging table of American Idol and made it as clear as can be: it totally and completely sucked!

"Honestly, I hated it," Mariah said. "Here's what it was. I was the first person who signed on...I thought it was going to be a three-person panel.

"They gave me a nice...monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay, Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing.'"

Yesterday, American Idol confirmed the new Season 13 judging panel of Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban.

And now the show has given us out first look at these singers in quasi action.

The trio has already begun the audition process, grading singers in Boston this week before moving around the country and narrowing down the field for January's American Idol premiere. Check out the first promotional shot of Keith, J. Lo and Harry now:

Harry Connick Jr. is in. Jennifer Lopez is returning. And Randy Jackson will never go away.

Following weeks of speculation and near-casting decisions, Fox has confirmed the Season 13 roster for American Idol:

Keith Urban will join Connick and Lopez at the judging table, while Ryan Seacrest will once again host and Randy Jackson will take over for Jimmy Iovine as in-house mentor.

In a statement, Kevin Reilly - Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company - explained the moves:

American Idol Quotes

Brooke White's tears come from the authentic, good soul that she is. Her heart was breaking because she was overwhelmed with the experience she had with the show and the gift that it brought.

Paula Abdul [after Brooke White was eliminated on season seven]

I read some of this online this morning and just for the record, the rumors — they’re not true. She’s part of our family and we love her.
