The top 24 contestants on this year's American Idol know how to sing... and party!

The group got together last night in Hollywood to celebrate its achievements.

Between intense rehearsals, the reality show newbies joined American Idol finalists from the past, such as Ace Young and Justin Guarini at the Day After Lounge in Hollywood.

"The judges have always been saying, 'this is the best year ever' and so on, but this year I really think they got it right," Guarini told Us Weekly.

The contestants posed for photos and flirted with each other.

Kady Malloy, who sang "Unchained Melody" during tryouts, held hands with Colton Berry â€" who was the last person selected to go on to the finals â€" at the desert table. Is there an American Idol love connection already?!?

Meanwhile Kristy Lee Cook, known for her a capella rendition of "Amazing Grace" confidently strutted around the room with a few girlfriends. Hot stuff!

It's official: the top 24 contestants on this year's American Idol were announced last night. Were you satisfied with the selections? Any obvious snubs?

We think the commercials touting this season as the most talented ever might actually ring true, as The Hollywood Gossip staff was impressed by singers male and female, young and old, rocking and serenading.

Mary J. Blige on Idol

Here's our breakdown of the American Idol top 24...

Serious Singers: Following the probable finalists listed above, here's who we think stands the next best chance of advancing to the next round.

  • Ramiele Malubay
  • Kady Malloy
  • David Hernandez
  • Alaina Whitaker
  • Syesha Mercado

And the Rest: No Sanjaya Malakars in this group, but they'll all need a world of luck to make it far.

We didn't include him among our top five performances from last night's American Idol auditions in Hollywood, but David Hernandez deserves a shout-out.

He hasn't received the same sort of screen time as contestants such as Michael Johns and Carly Smithson, but Hernandez may now be considered a dark horse following this rendition of "Love the One You're With."

So long, ear drum-shattering dreamers!

Hello, true American Idol hopefuls!

Bowersox! Bowersox!

That was the basic message behind tonight's Hollywood auditions, as contestants faced off against the judges on the same stage that will crown the winner in May.

Here are the top five performers from this round of important auditions:

1. Michael Johns (pictured): As Simon so rightfully said, the best of the night. By far.

2. Syesha Mercado: Recovered from a rough start to end the evening with impressive vocal range.

3. Asia'h Epperson: After her initial audition, was best known for tragic accident that recently befell her father. Proved that she belonged in the finals tonight on pure singing talent alone.

4. Carly Smithson: The Irish crooner joins Johns as a foreign-born talent who seems destined for the final 12.

5. David Archuleta: Young. Adorable. Talented. The only contestant that didn't seem flustered by the pressure of the evening.

Who was your favorite of the night?

Whether it's a stay in the hospital where you actually receive care (Britney Spears), an 8:30 a.m. drunken joyride (Barron Hilton) or a week in Hawaii filled with a nude Katharine McPhee (Nick Cokas), all good things must come to an end.

Here, the former American Idol runner-up and her husband return from their week in paradise. Katharine may have just been released by her record label, and dissed by Simon Cowell, but we trust she's in good hands with Nick Cokas...

Days until Nick Cokas gets Katharine McPhee pregnant? We have no idea, but start the countdown now. The girl has babies on the brain. It won't take that long!

The top 24 contestants on this year's American Idol will be officially revealed tomorrow night.

Of course, The Hollywood Gossip published the names of these finalists awhile ago, as our sources have been on the prowl for weeks, yearning to bring readers such an exclusive.

A Carrie Underwood Photo

Now, it appears as though the show has released a teaser photo of the final 24. Check it out below, as each contestant's face is covered by a Simon Cowell mask:

We can make some educated guesses about who is who: Robbie Carrico (bottom row, left) can hide behind a mask all he wants, but the long, blonde hair is a dead giveaway.

Similarly, those dreadlocks (male, third from right, top row) confirm the fact that Jason Castro has advanced to the next round.

Do you recognize anyone else? Tune in to American Idol tonight and tomorrow night to watch the field get cut down to 24 - and remember to visit our site every day for the latest news, rumors and spoilers on the show!

No offense to Beyonce, Kanye West or any other sharp-dressed star, but in the opinion of The Hollywood Gossip, Carrie Underwood owned the Grammys.

In terms of celebrity fashion, that is. Although she also won a real award - Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Before He Cheats." Hooray!

Haley Reinhart Pic

But from the moment she arrived at the Pre-Grammy Party held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Saturday (left) to when she took the stage at Staples Center for the awards show Sunday in Los Angeles (right), Carrie looked great.

That's certainly no surprise to American Idol followers such as ourselves or any of Carrie Underwood's country fans. Here are some photos of our girl ...

Carrie Underwood's Grammy fashion gets an A+ both Saturday and Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who has already sold more than 11 million albums, has also been offered some acting roles of late, but nothing she's taken.

"I'm not going to say what I turned down," she said Saturday. "We have had some offers for different things, but nothing has really felt right."

Her dream movie: A light-hearted comedy.

"I know I am not going to be the lead roles in some drama," Carrie Underwood said, "but if a small fun part comes open, than yes."

We're off to Hollywood!

As American Idol enters its fifth week of auditions, the show truly begins: contestants are judged in Hollywood and only the best of the best move one. Before they do, however, let's rank the top hopefuls so far in our third Power Poll of the season...

1. Kristy Lee Cook (last week: #1, pictured): Beautiful Oregonian's "Amazing Grace" was highlight of the initial American Idol audition shows - but will fans revolt against her one-time record deal with Arista Nashville? Then again, she certainly isn't alone in having a professional background.

2. Michael Johns (last week: #2): Also referred to as "Michael Lee Johns," the former band member once had a deal with Madonna's music label. The Aussie made a strong impression with a tight T-shirt, toned biceps, and a solid Otis Redding cover.

3. David Cook (last week: #6): Rocker with his sights set on the moniker of "this year's Chris Daughtry," Cook impressed viewers with his vocal range on Bon Jovi's "Livin on a Prayer."

4. David Archuleta (last week: #3): Former Star Search winner has the sympathy vote locked up: he struggled with a paralyzed vocal chord as a child. Might he be this year's Sanjaya Malakar… with talent?

5. Amanda Overmyer (new this week): She's a nurse! She's a gothic rocker! She's a talented singer with a unique look, sound and personality.

6. Chikezie Eze (new this week, pictured): Tried out for the show last year. Approved for Hollywood this time around with a rendition of "All the Woman I Need." Handsome, talented.

Might Amy Davis have competition for most beautiful American Idol contestant this season?

Cardin McKinney received a ticket to Hollywood this week, despite a less-than-enthusiastic response to her audition from Simon Cowell. He referred to her performance as "theatrical," but in a bad way, we guess.

The British judge couldn't find anything wrong with McKinney's looks, however, and it's easy to see why:

Davis may not have to worry about competition from Cardin for long: the American Idol spoilers that listed this season's top 24 did NOT include McKinney.

This rumor has led her obnoxious, misguided fans on The Cardin Nation website to say "Cardin's bigger than American Idol now, so it really doesn't matter anymore."

Right. That's why approximately 35 million more people watch the show every week than have even heard of Cardin McKinney.
