Few were shocked when Amanda Overmyer was given the boot on American Idol Wednesday night. Including Amanda herself.

"I just know how different I am," Overmyer told reporters during a Thursday conference call. "I know that I target an older audience and a different audience maybe than American Idol provides."

She also simply didn't sing "Back in the U.S.S.R." very well earlier in the week.

Amanda is Over(myer) and out. Which American Idol contestant will be the next to go? Kristy Lee Cook? Chikezie?

As for those American Idol judges and their comments Overmyer said: "When I was done singing, I was done singing. It's just kind of like when those judges would give their comments I just wanted to be respectful and listen, but the comments weren't going to sway me one way or the other as far as what I was going to do.

The objective of being on this show was to go up there and show America me, perform like me, and look like me, and see how well it would take.

The comments from the judges are based more on the idea of trying to win, and I just had a different agenda."

There was no surprise elimination on American Idol last night.

The two contestants that performed the worst on Tuesday - Kristy Lee Cook and Amanda Overmyer - were the final two left standing, as Ryan Seacrest milked every last second of the show for suspense, as usual.

In the end, rocker nurse Overmyer was voted off by viewers. The skunk-haired singer had shattered too many ear drums this week with her version of "Back in the U.S.S.R."

With Overmyer eliminated, Cook lives to look good and sing badly for at least another week. Hopefully, she'll let the world know again what she plans on doing to Simon.

To paraphrase a Beatles classic: the second week in a row of John Lennon/Paul McCartney songs on American Idol was A Hard Day's Night for the final 11 contestants.

Only one received an outpouring of support from all three judges. Can you guess who it was?

That's right, to sum up Simon, Paula and Randy, David Archuleta brought the hotness, while singing an amazing version of "The Long and Winding Road" that was a master class for everyone else. Fairly high praise.

As for the other typically consistent performers, here's a review of their less-than-perfect performances:

  • Away from her piano, Brooke White appeared uncomfortable. We did smile that she wore yellow while singing "Here Comes the Sun," but she admitted afterwards that she was an awkward mover.
  • Simply put, Simon said Michael Johns' take on "A Day in the Life" was a complete mess. The Aussie missed notes, while Randy said it wasn't one of his good ones. Baby.
  • We actually liked Carly Smithson and her version of "Blackbird," but Simon labeled it was "indulgent." Kinda weird. Paula said Carly should earn a capital F for Fantastic.
  • Jason Castro was adorable as always, but maybe he can blame the French lyrics for not really seeming connected to the song.

The funniest moment of the night was brought to us by Kristy Lee Cook. After another lowly performance, she - seemingly to Simon, seemingly out of nowhere - announced she could "blow you out of your socks off, and you know it!"

While Ryan blushed and Randy begged him not to follow up on that, we wondered if Kristy drew motivation from Antonella Barba.

Sorry, David Archuleta lovers, but you cannot forget the lyrics to a song and hold on to the top spot in our American Idol Power Poll.

Feel free to write in and voice your complaints about your favorite singer dropping in the rankings - just make sure not to forget the words when you do...

Lee in the Finals

1. Brooke White: Every time we see White strumming the guitar or fingering the piano, we can't help but think of folk sensation Patty Griffin. White is an American Idol original with a huge career ahead of her.

2. David Cook: Chris Daughtry proved that an Idol rocker can have a bright future. Cook has a serious shot at being the first to actually capture the show's title.

3. David Archuleta: He's still cute. He still has a great voice. But fans must ask themselves: can you actually see Archuleta as a best-selling artist?

Stage fright got the best of David Archuleta last week. Can he recover?

Let's at least give Elisabeth Hasselbeck some credit: unlike former coworker, Rosie O'Donnell, this host of The View didn't refer to 9/11 as a conspiracy.

But the conservative blonde is singing a conspiratorial tuner over David Hernandez being voted off American Idol last night.

"My mind went, 'You know what? This is a conspiracy," said Hasselbeck during this morning's show.

"American Idol maybe didn't want to deal with the fact that he had this shady - so-called - past and they blocked all of his phone calls of people voting for him.'"

Whoopi Goldberg was taken aback at this accusation, reiterating Hasselbeck's stance in amazement: "They blocked his phone calls?!?"

Sounds like a controversial, attention-getting viewpoint to me, Elisabeth basically responded. We wonder if she also thinks Eliot Spitzer got a raw deal.

"I'm making up my own conspiracy theory. This is my paranoia," she said.

"Because he's good - he is good - despite his... whatever he was doing on the side. But I think he actually deserved the spot to be there and I feel like maybe they were just trying to get him off the show."

What do you think? Did American Idol conspire to give David Hernandez the boot?

What must Kristy Lee Cook do to get eliminated from American Idol?

No offense to the lovely singer. We'd never wish an elimination on anyone. But her butchering of a Beatles classic seemed to make her the front-runner to be voted off the show last night. Instead, David Hernandez said goodbye.

At least he has a lucrative career he can go back to...

Do you think David Hernandez deserved to go home? Who do you think is the worst performer on American Idol?

American Idol finalists sang tunes from the John Lennon/Paul McCartney song book last night - and the results were nothing short of shocking!

The man known simply as Chikezie stepped up with a performance of "She's a Woman" that was among the most entertaining of the season. He bounded around on stage with the energy of a toddler, causing Randy Jackson to say he "smashed it."

Simon Cowell added: "It was certainly a unique version of the song ... I thought you were terrific."

As for heavy favorite David Archuleta? He stumbled for a change, forgetting the lyrics to "We Can Work It Out" and having his performance called a "mess" by Simon.

The ragged audition has left the door open for the following finalists, all of whom earned rave reviews by the judges last night:

  • Carly Smithson: Finally selecting the right song, this Irish crooner belted out "Come Together" to the delight of the crowd. Paula Abdul said: "I felt like I was already watching a star ... I couldn't wait until you got into the Top 12 so you could start showing who you are as a performer. You're amazing!"
  • David Cook: Turned "Eleanor Rigby" into a rock anthem, eliciting the highest of praise from Simon: "If this show remains a talent competition rather than a popularity competition, you actually could win this entire show."
  • Brooke White: Subtle continues to work well for White. She sat at a piano, sang the classic "Let It Be" and heard from Randy: "You gave a very heartfelt performance. I love that. I'm a fan!"

Who was your favorite performer of the night?
