Adam Levine and Alicia Keys performed "Girl on Fire" Sunday at the Grammys, with the Maroon 5 frontman stepping in for Nicki Minaj on music's biggest night.

Decked out in slick black slacks and black shirt, Levine took the stage with his band to perform "Daylight" before Alicia Keys joined them and the duo.

Alicia killed it on the drums. After a verse of "Girl," they brought it back around with "Daylight," then ended things with some more "Fire." And it rocked:

Among the many other notable moments from last night's extravaganza ...

The excitement of Super Bowl XLVII kicked off a few moments before kick off tonight, as Alicia Keys took to the Superdome field in New Orleans and belted out the Star-Spangled Banner.

There was no lip-synching controversy here, nor any national anthem lyric flubs.

Instead, we were just treated to a beautiful version of our nation's most patriotic song. How did Keys do? Listen to her now and then compare it to past national anthem performances...

What grade would you give Alicia Keys for her Super Bowl national anthem?

In anticipation of her national anthem performance at Super Bowl XLVII, Alicia Keys took to the stage last night to serenade party goers at one of D.C's many Inaugural Balls.

And the singer stood out by changing up the lyrics of one of her biggest hits.

Forget "Girl on Fire," readers, and listen now to "Obama on Fire."

Of note from the actual Inauguration earlier in the day:

We still don't know who will play in next month's Super Bowl - our money is on the Patriots vs. the 49ers - but we do now know the two main musical acts that will be featured in New Orleans.

Beyonce will perform at halftime - and it's been confirmed that Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem.

Alicia Keys on Stage

The occasion will mark this Grammy winner’s first time performing at the big game, although she has actually twice before taken the stage during the pre-show.

Music fans, meanwhile, can also look forward to a Destiny's Child reunion along Beyonce, presumably to belt out the group's new single, "Nuclear."

Two talented singers. Two different styles.

Before Taylor Swift's stage-diving VMA performance, she walked the red carpet in a sleek white J. Mendel pantsuit and classic red lips at the annual MTV gala.

Meanwhile, Alicia Keys rocked a one-shoulder, draped silver gown and asymmetrical 'do to boot before her collaboration with Nicki Minaj (and Gabby Douglas).

There's really no wrong answer with these two, but whose MTV Video Music Awards style do you like better? Cast your vote in THG's latest Fashion Face-Off!

The Fierce Five - Gabby Douglas, 16, McKayla Maroney, 16, Kyla Ross, 15, Jordyn Wieber, 17, and Aly Raisman, 18 - appeared at the MTV VMAs last night.

One of America's gymnastics golden girls in particular made her presence felt, however, during Alicia Keys' performance of "Girl on Fire" late in the show.

Midway through the song, Nicki Minaj appeared on stage to perform her verse, which included a shout-out to Douglas, who then tumbled onto the stage!

Nicki Minaj rapped: "Took me on the balcony, telling me to jump with her / Yeah, I'm in the ghost but I ain't doing stunts with her / I ain't trying to be that, haters want to see that / But I got 'em aggy, cause I win the gold like Gabby."

Cue Gabby!

Douglas strutted past Keys and performing a series of cartwheels, jumps and back hand springs, flashing her million-dollar smile and high-fiving Keys as she left.

Talk about making an entrance and an exit. The lame Russian judge probably found some obscure reason to deduct points, but we'd give Gabby a perfect 10.

Our only regret? That she didn't do this for every artist. The Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz MTV performance really could've used a little gymnastics flair.

"She would call you for no reason at all, but just to say 'hi.' She was a beautiful human being - really caring, beautiful, thoughtful."

So said Alicia Keys today, holding back tears, prior to breaking into a rendition of "Send Me An Angel" in honor of the late Whitney Houston. Watch for yourself now:

Stevie Wonder also performed at the memorial, while Houston's former co-star in The Bodyguard was applauded for his beautiful tribute to the part-time actress.

"To you, Bobbi Kristina, and to all those young girls who are dreaming that dream, thinking that maybe they aren't good enough, I think Whitney would tell you, guard your bodies," said Kevin Costner. "And guard the precious miracle of your own life. Then sing your hearts out.

"Off you go Whitney, off you go. Escorted by an army of angels to your heavenly Father. When you sing before him, don't you worry. You'll be good enough."

Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher are going dark.

All in the name of charity. The aforementioned foursome and others are signing off Twitter and Facebook Tuesday until they raise $1 million for World AIDS Day.

Lady GaGa Naked

Keys' charity, Keep A Child Alive, is staging a campaign that will have celebs such as Lady GaGa, Justin Timberlake, and Usher signing off of all social media.

PEACE OUT: Donate money or Usher won't be back on Twitter!

The "Digital Life Sacrifice" will feature the stars' filming "last tweet and testament" videos which will show them lying coffins to represent their "digital death."

"It's really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on," Keys said. "It's so important to shock you to the point of waking up."

"It's not that people don't care or it's not that people don't want to do something, it's that they never thought of it quite like that. This is direct, instantly emotional way, a little sarcastic too, as a way to get people to pay attention."
