What's in a name? As it turns out, maybe everything.

Since Shakespeare first posited the question in Romeo and Juliet, actors have been using fake names to land professional roles. Not only did it allow them some semblance of privacy before the dawn of Wikipedia, but let's face it, some people just aren't born with great names.

Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Connor? Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta? Quite a mouthful.

If an actor or musician's entire career is dedicated to being someone else - a character or personality, perhaps - then a good stage name can go a long way to making that career explode.

More celebrities use pseudonyms than you might think. In fact, here are 67 stars who don't use their real names. Which ones did you know before viewing this gallery?

Lorde
Musical sensation Lorde was given the name Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Connor at birth. We'd probably go with Lorde, too.

Five decades after changing the music scene forever, The Beatles brought artists from a variety of genres together last night.

Exactly 50 years to the date after John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show, CBS aired "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles."

It featured such acts as Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder and Katy Perry, all paying tribute to the legendary band via covers of their greatest hits.

And the event concluded with the group's two surviving members, McCartney and Starr, singing a duet of "Hey Jude."

We have no idea why Justin Bieber wasn't invited to participate, but take in a number of memorable performances from the evening now:

Swizz Beatz is a lucky man and he knows it, posing a photo of Alicia Keys (his wife since 2010) in a bikini on their vacation in Brazil earlier this week.

"Yeah baby," he wrote in the caption. "#BondGirlFlow."

The James Bond reference is not far off by any means.

With her orange bikini and short black hair, the 32-year-old R&B singer does look a little like Halle Berry's character Jinx in 2002's Die Another Day.

The Alicia Keys bikini photo shows her standing on the shore and looking out at the ocean, her hands on near her hips and showing off her toned abs.

The Grammy-winning star and her husband, who turns 35 today, flew to Brazil with their son Egypt, 2, earlier this week to celebrate Swizz' birthday.

He's already gotten quite the present, it seems.

It was not a pleasant Thursday evening for Angie Miller, as this impressive young singer was voted off the penultimate American Idol results show of Season 12.

It was, however, a far better night for Alicia Keys.

The multiple-time Grammy winner, who has served as an Idol mentor on many occasions, debuted "Tears Always Win" during the broadcast. What do you think of the new single?

Decide for yourself now:

And remember to tune in to next week's finale when Jennifer Lopez returns and performs!

Amazingly, this DMX story does not involve a mug shot. Seriously.

Just an awesome video of him crashing an Alicia Keys concert!

The crowd went nuts at Madison Square Garden when Swizz Beatz - Keys' husband - and DMX came out an unexpected rendition of the "Ruff Ryders Anthem."

Then, after they shut 'em down and opened up shop, the duo launched into "Party (Up in Here)" ... and it was enough to make people lose their minds. Up in here.

Sorry.

Let's now consider Alicia Keys one for two.

Following a Super Bowl national anthem that was the longest in recorded history, and which many considered to be the height of self-indulgence, the artist took to the court at last night's NBA All-Star Game.

And she clearly had fun belting out a medley of hits that included "Empire State of Mind," Girl on Fire" and "No One."

Adam Levine and Alicia Keys performed "Girl on Fire" Sunday at the Grammys, with the Maroon 5 frontman stepping in for Nicki Minaj on music's biggest night.

Decked out in slick black slacks and black shirt, Levine took the stage with his band to perform "Daylight" before Alicia Keys joined them and the duo.

Alicia killed it on the drums. After a verse of "Girl," they brought it back around with "Daylight," then ended things with some more "Fire." And it rocked:

The excitement of Super Bowl XLVII kicked off a few moments before kick off tonight, as Alicia Keys took to the Superdome field in New Orleans and belted out the Star-Spangled Banner.

There was no lip-synching controversy here, nor any national anthem lyric flubs.

Instead, we were just treated to a beautiful version of our nation's most patriotic song. How did Keys do? Listen to her now and then compare it to past national anthem performances...

What grade would you give Alicia Keys for her Super Bowl national anthem?

In anticipation of her national anthem performance at Super Bowl XLVII, Alicia Keys took to the stage last night to serenade party goers at one of D.C's many Inaugural Balls.

And the singer stood out by changing up the lyrics of one of her biggest hits.

Forget "Girl on Fire," readers, and listen now to "Obama on Fire."

Of note from the actual Inauguration earlier in the day:

We still don't know who will play in next month's Super Bowl - our money is on the Patriots vs. the 49ers - but we do now know the two main musical acts that will be featured in New Orleans.

Beyonce will perform at halftime - and it's been confirmed that Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem.

Alicia Keys on Stage

The occasion will mark this Grammy winner’s first time performing at the big game, although she has actually twice before taken the stage during the pre-show.

Music fans, meanwhile, can also look forward to a Destiny's Child reunion along Beyonce, presumably to belt out the group's new single, "Nuclear."
