Vittorio Missoni Missing After Plane Disappears
Italian fashion designer Vittorio Missoni is missing after his plane disappeared off the coast of Venezuela.
The plane, a BN2 Islander, disappeared yesterday at 11:29 a.m. carrying Missoni, 58, his wife Maurizia Castiglioni, another couple they were vacationing with, and two crew members, when it went off the grid 10 nautical miles after taking off from Los Roques en route to Caracas.
"Emergency services have been looking for it with helicopters and ships, but have not found anything yet," Italian consul Giovanni Davoli said. "They are still searching for it this morning."
Missoni and his siblings Luca and Angela took over the Italian fashion house from their parents in 1996. Ottavia "Tai" and Rosita Missoni founded the company in 1953.
A rep for the business says that Missoni's relatives have been notified of his disappearance and were returning to Italy from a vacation in France.
