Exclusive Interview with Choreographer Paul Becker
Canada born choreographer Paul Becker discovered dance at an early age and has immersed himself in virtually every style. With his name associated with such mega films as 'The Twilight Saga' franchise, we thought it would be fun to chat with Paul about his past, present and future plans.
This Breaking Dawn craziness is just insane. How does it feel to be in the middle of all the hype? Whenever a film that I am a part of is getting a lot of hype, it always feels great. It isn't the reason why I do what I do but it is a nice reward.
What is the earliest memory of being inspired to dance? My earliest memory is when I was given a movie to watch called "Singing in the Rain." I was immediately hooked.
Your IMDB is jammed packed with back to back work. Do you have any time off? I always hope for time off...but I really love what I do and time just seems to fly.
Will you have any free time during the holidays to spend with family ? I have started my Thanksgiving holiday today!!! I am very excited. We are having a big Thanksgiving dinner...friends and family are coming over.
In the last 6 months which project are you most proud of and why? I am most proud of a new film I choreographed called "Nightingale" starring Jeremy Renner and Joaquin Phoenix. It is a period piece set in NYC in 1910.
What are you working on next? I just wrapped "90210" TV series. As for what is next, I have been developing a few projects.
Can we see any collaborations with Kenny Ortega in the future? I love working with Kenny. The man is a genius. I hope so.
If you were given $1 million budget to produce and direct anything right now what would it be? I would do a musical. A million bucks isn't really a lot to work with, but I could seriously use it to create a great film....while pulling a lot of favors.
Concluding with Breaking Dawn question. Heard you were actually cast into a scene -- is this true? Bill Condon put me in the "Breaking Dawn" wedding scene. I showed up to choreograph and a suit was waiting for me in my trailer.
