'Skyfall' Most Successful James Bond Debut Ever
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series, producers crafted Skyfall with some nostalgic touches that included bringing back 007's vintage car.
The film has a throwback feel with the use of dynamite and improvised weapons as Bond, skillfully portrayed by Daniel Craig, his boss M, and an old codger from 007's past fight off a small army of men led by an unstable former agent. Javier Bardem's character is seeking revenge against his former boss--British spymaster M, portrayed by Dame Judi Dench.
Skyfall, the 23rd Bond movie, shattered the U.S. weekend record for the successful franchise, debuting with $87.8 million at the box office. The film has earned $586 million worldwide.
Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony said, "It's quite a testament to Bond. What a great anniversary present."
Rounding out the Top 5 box office hit: #2 Wreck-it-Ralph ($33 million), #3 Flight ($15.1 million), #4 Argo ($6.7 million), #5 Taken ($4 million).
