Gabrielle Douglas, 16, tweeted from the London Games last night after qualifying for the women’s all-around finals.

Also making the cut was her 18-year-old teammate Alexandra Raisman. The duo will not only compete for team glory but have earned the opportunity to medal individually in each of the Olympic gymnastic events.

In a shocking turn of events, highly-favored Jordyn Wieber, 17, left the floor in tears after failing to advance to the individual finals. She’ll still get a chance to win gold in the team competition but the heartbreak was fresh when she posted a photo collage on Twitter and remarked: “It’s hard to explain these feelings.”

Douglas got a Twitter shout-out from Olympic gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci, the Romanian girl who earned the first ‘Perfect 10’ during the Montreal Games in 1976:

The no-nonsense U.S. Gymnastics coach Martha Karolyi simply shrugged her shoulders over Wieber’s rough day. She said, “I’m very sad, but I’m very happy about the other girls. Hard work pays off … we support Jordyn, but things happen.”

Other team members include McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and alternates Sarah Finnegan, Anna Li and Elizabeth Price.

One thing is certain, Team USA will need Jordyn Wieber to come back strong if they hope to collect a gold medal on Tuesday. Go Team USA!
