Russell Simmons Buys 'All-American Muslim' Ad Space After Lowe's Bails
Entrepreneur Russell Simmons has never been afraid to put his money into public activist causes. After Lowe's pulled their ads from the new TLC reality show All-American Muslim, Russell bought up the suddenly available ad space and will push his Visa Rush Card.
Simmons tweeted, "Just purchased remaining spots for #allamericanmuslim for next week. The show is sold out! Keep your money @lowes and we will keep ours."
Lowe's pulled their ads from the show after coming under fire from conservative protests led by the Florida Family Association.
The television series follows the lives of five Muslim American families from the Dearborn, Michigan area, home to one of the most active Muslim communities in the country.
Russell has called for a boycott of Lowe's, claiming their recent actions are "bigoted, shameful, and un-Americans." He has also launched a Twitter petition, urging other companies to advertise during All-American Muslim.
The business magnate is willing to buy more long-term ad space but corporations are stepping up to the plate to get it covered.
Russell made news in November when he offered to pay for the clean-up of Zuccotti Park in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
