Gertrude 'Luna' Vachon: WWE Star Dead (PHOTOS, VIDEO)
World Wrestling Entertainment has issued a statement on their website today acknowledging the death of former WWE star Gertrude 'Luna' Vachon. The wrestler, who suffered from bipolar disorder, passed away this morning at the home of her mother in Florida.
Wrestling promoter and friend David Herro said on Twitter: "With a broken heart I am crushed 2 tell u that one of the most amazing people I have ever known has died. God Bless Luna Vachon. I love u."
The 48-year-old Canadian, often referred to as Princess Luna, was associated with the WWE organization on and off from 1993-2000. Well known for being one of the few female wrestlers, she also gained notoriety for teaming with Bam Bam Bigelow at WrestleMania X.
Luna was introduced to the world of wrestling by her father Paul 'Butcher' Vachon, a famous Canadian grappler. Her uncle was Maurice 'Mad Dog' Vachon, five time AWA World Champion.
The Daughter of Darkness was featured in both Playboy and Hustler and sang back-up vocals for a band known as Nasty Savage. Earlier this year her house burned down, destroying many of her wrestling-related memorabilia.
Vachon is survived by two sons.
