Kent W. Clapp, 62, head of Medical Mutual of Ohio died along with his 40 year old fiance Tracy Turner when their charter plane crashed into the side of a mountain in Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Clapp had been the Chairman and CEO of Medical Mutual of Ohio since 1997.   Formerly part of Blue Cross, their website indicates it is Ohio's oldest and largest health insurance company, employing 2700 people in eight states.  Turner was an actress and owner of Turner Fashion Enterprises.

The couple, who lived together in Avon Lake, Ohio, were vacationing in the Caribbean and missed their scheduled Continental Airlines flight on Wednesday in the British Virgin Islands.  It was to have taken them to Puerto Rico, then on to Newark, N.J. and Cleveland.  Clapp chartered a small plane to take them to San Juan so that they could make the next connection of their missed flight.

The pilot, Ken Webster was also killed when the craft crashed into fog shrouded El Yunque mountain, 13 miles from San Juan, at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.   Webster was an experienced pilot and airplane mechanic who owned Websta's Aviation Services Inc.

The NTSB indicates that U.S. investigator Todd Gunther will lead the probe into the crash of the Rockwell International 690B plane.

A statement on the Medical Mutual of Ohio website said, in part: "It is difficult to put into words the loss we are feeling.  It was Kent's leadership and hard work that turned Medical Mutual into a success and an industry leader.  That will be Kent's legacy.  His priorities were twofold: his employees, and his customers."

Clapp is survived by sons Jason, Alex, Nathan, Cameron and daughters Danelle Bennington and Isabele Clapp.
