I am a senior staff writer at THG and a big fan of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Robert Pattinson. I believe Kim Kardashian is bad for society, but great for attention, and that The Real Housewives should all be banned from existence.

Jacob Lusk closed out the American Idol performance show last night - and may have finally showed some weakness.

The soulful crooner covered a 1987 Heart single, "Alone," coming on a bit strong with the vibrato and coming dangerously close to screeching instead of singing. But the judges still showered the finalist with praise, gushing:

Tasked with covering a song from the year of her birth, Thia Megia went all Disney on American Idol viewers last night.

The season 10 hopeful delivered a lovely version of Vanessa Williams' "Colors of the Wind" from the 1995 film Pocahontas. Wow. Yes, Thia Megia was born in 1995. It's a safe choice, one that shows off Megia's steady, strong tone and style.

Lauren Alaina was among the American Idol finalists who performed with the flu last night.

But the resulting, smokey sound may have actually helped this 16-year old with her rendition of Melissa Etheridge's "I'm the Only One."

Casey Abrams made American Idol history last night.

The bearded, talented finalist became the first contestant to ever cover a Nirvana single, putting his unique spin on "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It wasn't the greatest performance of the evening - that honor likely fell to Stefano Langone - but you have to give Casey props to taking such a risk.

Following a cover of a Paul McCartney classic, James Durbin returned to his rock roots last night.

The American Idol finalist made the girls in attendance scream with a version of Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You," roaming the stage while singing, shaking hands with audience members, making like a true star.

So much for what you read in magazines.

The same week Details released excerpts from its interview with Joe Jonas in this month's issue, one in which the singer gushed that Ashley Greene "puts my feelings first," we've learned that the singer and the Twilight Saga star have split.

If you don't know Stefano Langone by now... watch the following performance of a 1989 hit single from last night's American Idol performance show.

You'll see someone Jennifer Lopez has dubbed a legitimate contender, someone who can take the "whole competition." Does the wild card entry belong in the same conversation as early favorites Casey Abrams and James Durbin now?

Tasked with singing a song that was released the year of her birth, Pia Toscano chose Whitney Houston's "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" last night.

Prior to taking the stage and wowing the judges yet again ("You are why this show is called American Idol," Steven said), we learned via montage that Pia has been covering classics since she was young.

With numerous music industry heavyweight expressing their condolences today over Nate Dogg's passing, it's been revealed that one of this season's American Idol favorites knew the hip hop legend personally.

In 2007, Jacob Lusk landed the lead singing role for "InNate Praise," a gospel group formed by the Dogg. This kicked off a close friendship between the singers, as they performed at churches around Los Angeles.
