I am a senior staff writer at THG and a big fan of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Robert Pattinson. I believe Kim Kardashian is bad for society, but great for attention, and that The Real Housewives should all be banned from existence.

Shortly after the American Idol finale opened last night, and it was revealed that Lauren Alaina was having voice problems, Scotty McCreery left the judges speechless.

That's how good his rendition of "Gone" was to kick off the aspiring star's three-song set. It even topped the first time Scotty performed this ballad on season 10. Listen for yourself:

But will one top-notch performance alone be enough to carry Scotty to the title? His subsequent two cover were a bit of a letdown, first on George's Strait's "Check Yes or No" and then on the introduction of "I Love You This Big" to close out his run.

Even Randy couldn't muster up excitement for the latter, saying: "I'm not sure it was the perfect song for you, but the range was great. Dude, you know what? I'm proud of you, because you've grown during this contest, and that was a brilliant vocal."

Listen to both singles below and decide: Does McCreery have a chance?

There's a new case for producers of Law & Order: SVU: find an actor to replace one of its two leads.

In surprising news, NBC could not come to an agreement with Christopher Meloni, who has played Detective Stabler for 12 seasons and whose contract expired this spring.

Sources say series creator Dick Wolf is already searching for a big name to replace Meloni and star opposite Mariska Hargitay, who will only appear on half of season 13. She might even be replaced by Jennifer Love Hewitt.

An unexpected development, indeed. You tell us: who should take over on Law & Order: SVU?

Lauren Alaina was scarily close to missing out on her dream tonight.

The American Idol finalist suffered through a vocal chord sprain - akin to a sprained ankle, according to a physician - during rehearsals this afternoon. It was so bad that Haley Reinhart was nearly called in to replace Lauren on the finale.

But a doctor appeared on stage at the outset of the program and told viewers he gave Alaina some medicine because she "blew out" her voice and he thinks she'll "do great."

"I'm here, I'm ready to sing. I'm fine, don't worry about it," Lauren said, hoarsely, on stage.

How will this affect the results? Are Lauren's title hopes dashed? Will the country vote for her out of sympathy and/or toughness? The finale is airing as we type and we'll post all the performances first thing in the morning. Such drama and suspense...

We wonder if jumpsuits are proper attire for the Emmy Awards...

According to Deadline Hollywood, Glee star Jane Lynch is the leading contender to host this year's ceremony, which will air on Fox in September.

Jane Lynch as Sue

The official announcement won't be made until tomorrow, but Lynch's background as an actress, comedian and singer make her a natural choice. Other Fox personalities under consideration are reportedly Ryan Seacrest and Seth MacFarlane.

Do you think Lynch would make a solid host?

UPDATE: It's confirmed! Lynch is in.

The case of Casey Anthony - a woman accused of killing her her two-year old daughter, Caylee - got underway today. And the defense attorney presented a shocking argument on behalf of his client.

Claiming that Casey lied about her child going missing in 2008, Jose Baez told the jury that Caylee "was never missing. She drowned in the family swimming pool."

Almost three years go, the young girl's body was found just a half mile from her Orlando house. By that time, Casey, who hadn't reported Caylee's disappearance weeks, had already been arrested.

Queen Latifah is already a singer, actress, award ceremony host and television personality.

But the star apparently isn't busy enough, as she's announced an upcoming fashion line that will be sold on HLN.

“I’m so excited about it,” Latifah tells People. “This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I’ve been offered a lot of deals for clothing lines and actually started one that didn’t quite get off the ground but this is like a full circle moment for me.”

A lover of hand bags, Latifah says those accessories will be "really good."

And HLN viewers will have a chance to purchase them, along with other items, on August 27. There will be "something for everyone," the Queen says.

MTV is developing a new reality show, one that follows in the grand tradition of 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom.

The network has ordered a pilot for Married Young, a series that will follow the lives of newly wedded couples, documenting their first year as husbands and wives.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Married Young is a working title and will be a more light-hearted look at life than either of the aforementioned baby-based programs. Still, MTV? Taking on marriage?

Think this is a good idea?

It all begins and ends with your friends.

So teases the following trailer for Entourage, which hypes the final season for Vince, E, Ari and company. The promo doesn't reveal any new scenes, but it should still get long-time fans excited for the series.

This isn't really goodbye, of course. Producer Mark Wahlberg has made no secret of his wishes to eventually make an Entourage movie. Let's hope that is more entertaining than the last three seasons of this lazy sitcom...
