I am a senior staff writer at THG and a big fan of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Robert Pattinson. I believe Kim Kardashian is bad for society, but great for attention, and that The Real Housewives should all be banned from existence.

When it comes to shaggy hair, supportive parents, a strong voice and a humble attitude, be warned Justin Bieber: you now have competition.

On American Idol's foray into Pittsburgh last night, viewers met Eben Franckewitz, a 15-year old from Milford, Ohio. We were first introduced to him via home video, as the show drove home just how close Eben is to his parents.

He then only needed a few seconds in front of the judges to earn a Golden Ticket for his  rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine," with all agreeing the kid was adorable and Randy Jackson telling him: "You definitely have a God-given gift that is pretty amazing and spot-on."

Also serving notice in the Steel City? Hallie Day. The 24-yar old waitress means singing business.

This doesn't make Kim Kardashian any less wooden or any less of a money-starved waste of large breasts. But the man running a website that encourages folks to boycott companies that employ the celebrity has been identified.

And he has a criminal record.

Kim Kardashian in Black

TMZ reports that the owner of BoycottKimKardashian dot com is named Frank Basti and he recently finished parole for a conviction of mail fraud. It stemmed from him sending false notices to car dealerships that claimed they had to cough up money to the DMV.

There's also a question over whether 650,000 people - as Basti claimed - have actually signed the petition, seeing as Compete.com (which estimates website traffic) says a total of 24,000 visitors went to the site in December. The ex-con argues that he's including past efforts, such as a Facebook campaign, with his numbers.

Still, nothing about Frank Basti changes anything about Kim Kardashian. She remains a personality-free, talent-free creation of her media savvy mother and the social network culture in which we live.

Adam Lambert stopped by Ellen yesterday and took full responsibility for the fight that broke out between him and boyfriend Sauli Koskinen in Finland in December.

The singer referred to it as childish and foolish and irresponsible, adding that he's learned a lesson and it won't happen again. Good. Case closed. Let's move on, shall we, to new music from the former American Idol star?

Adam will soon release "Trespassing," his second album, and has already dropped the first single off it, "Better Than I Know Myself." Watch him perform it live on he aforementioned talk show now:

Darn you, American Idol.

Every season, we know the opening rounds will feature a number of sob stories. We know you'll contrive various situations and shove certain contestants down our eye sockets because they have an interesting personal tale - and yet, every season, we fall for it.

Case in from last night's Pittsburgh auditions: Hallie Day, a 24-year old from Baltimore who dropped out of high school and admitted that she attempted suicide years ago. But now she's on the road to recovery and, following her take on Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," the aspiring artist "could win," said Jennifer Lopez.

Watch her audition now and learn about her background now:

Sarah Burke, a four-time X-Games champion, has passed away from injuries sustained during a training run last week. She was 29.

The Canadian crashed in Park City, Utah on January 10 and, according to reports, fell into cardiac arrest soon after. She was airlifted to a hospital and underwent surgery to repair a tear in a significant artery before being placed in a medically-induced coma on life support.

But it was all too much and Burke lost her battle earlier today due to a lack of oxygen to her brain, doctors said. She was surrounded by family and friends when she died and donated her organs and tissues. Sarah is survived by her husband of two years, skier Rory Bushfield.

"Sarah, in many ways, defines the sport," said Peter Judge, the CEO of Canada's freestyle team, prior to her death. "She's been involved since the very, very early days as one of the first people to bring skis into the pipe. She's also been very dedicated in trying to define her sport but not define herself by winning. For her, it's been about making herself the best she can be rather than comparing herself to other people."

When do 21.6 million viewers equate to a disappointing episode of television? When you've been the country's top-rated series for years.

Indeed, American Idol earned the highest ratings on TV last night and will undoubtedly do so every evening it airs through the May finale - but its numbers were down 27% from the season 10 opener.

There are many reasons for this decline - all programs suffer viewer fatigue at some point, and the competition (The Voice, The Sing-Off, The X Factor) from similar shows has never been higher - but talent is not be among them.

There were actually a few strong acts last night, three of which we've posted again here:

Might we soon need to Tac a new young power couple in Hollywood on to the board?

According to the latest issue of Us Weekly, Taylor Swift and Zac Efron (aka Tac, according to certain opening sentences) dined together at an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles.

Witnesses say the superstar singer and former High School Musical star "were deep in conversation and very giggly," even arriving together in the latter's Audi.

A source shoots down dating rumors between this pair, simply saying Taylor and Zac "were in L.A. doing press stuff together, and after they were done, they decided to grab dinner."

And, yes, it is true that they are starring in The Lorax together. But what fun is that? Two professionals exchanging career-oriented talk and mere friendly banter?

It's far more enjoyable to play this out in our minds and imagine Swift penning her next heartbreaking album about Efron, isn't it?

Might November 16, 2012 not mark the beginning of the end for The Twilight Saga after all?

While we're still nearly a year away from the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, Lionsgate President Jon Feltheimer is already looking at life beyond the final installment of Stephenie Meyer's novels - and he has an idea for how to milk the franchise for all it can produce.

  • Robert Pattinson Promo Photo
  • Breaking Dawn Poster: Jacob

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” Felthemier said of the possibility that another film could be made. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration."

But the source material is tapped out. How could the studio back another Edward and Bella-based saga?

“Maybe go back into some of the back stories,” Feltheimer suggested. “There’s been talk of shorts and different new media, too.”

Only time, and screaming Twihard reaction, will tell. But what do you think of this plan? Do you want to see Twilight extended beyond Breaking Dawn?

He's already issued a couple statements on the incident, but Adam Lambert sat down with Ellen DeGeneres this week and addressed his fight with boyfriend Sauli Koskinen for the first time in person.

A quick refresher: Lambert and Koskinen were both arrested in late 2011 after they engaged in a drunken brawl just prior to Christmas.

"We had too much to drink. We screwed up," the singer told the host. "There were no injuries, no violence. It was more of childish, foolish, messiness... I was a little irresponsible and I think what I learned from the experience was that I owe it to myself, to my loved ones, and to my fans to be a little more adult and pull it together."

As seen below, Adam concludes that his New Year's resolution was to clean up his act and he now feels "amazing."

Following chatter that it may become a movie, The Carrie Diaries - Candace Bushenll's prequel novel to Sex and the City - has instead been picked up as a pilot for The CW and will likely be included on that network's fall schedule.

In other words: the search for a new Carrie Bradshaw is on!

Carrie Diaries

The story follows Carrie as a high school student in Manhattan and, via earlier rumors, Blake Lively was supposedly up the the iconic lead role.

But she'll be on Gossip Girl when the series premieres and is likely to test out a movie career once that show is finished. Who does that leave for Carrie? We've listed four suggestions below and are open to others. Who do you think is the best fit?
