Cameron Diaz paid tribute to Madonna on the cover of V Magazine.

On July 4, the reigning queen of pop paid tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with a musical tribute to the star at the O2 arena in London.

In the same arena where Jackson, who died of cardiac arrest June 25, was set to stage his This Is It! series of concerts beginning July 13, Madonna sang "Holiday" while a Jackson impersonator took the stage, sporting a sequin-embellished jacket.

An image of a young Michael Jackson was projected in the background. The impersonator then moonwalked to his hit "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'."

Madonna said, "Let's give it up for one of the greatest artists the world has ever known." She and her dancers donned jeweled gloves on their right hands to honor MJ for their final dance. Check out the video of Madonna's tribute below ...

Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, who made three Pro Bowls and led the Tennessee Titans within one yard of forcing overtime in Super Bowl XXXIV, was shot and killed July 4 along with his rumored lover, Sahel Kazemi.

His wife, Mechelle McNair, may have only learned about the gridiron star's affair with the gorgeous young woman after the clandestine couple's grisly deaths.

Nashville police confirmed that Steve McNair, 36, was killed by four bullets at close range, two of which hit him in the head, and ruled his death a homicide.

His lover, Sahel Kazemi, 20, died of a single gunshot wound from the same semiautomatic weapon found on the floor under her body, police also said.

Sahel Kazemi and Steve McNair, a dad of four boys, were dating for several months, friends told cops; McNair apparently kept the affair a secret from his wife Mechelle.

Police stopped short of calling the slayings a murder-suicide carried out by Kazemi, but said they are not looking for any suspects. Cops ruled McNair's death a homicide and have not ruled on Kazemi's death, citing the need for more tests.

Sahel Kazemi and Steve McNair, a dad of four boys, were dating for several months, friends told cops; McNair apparently kept the affair a secret from his wife.

Kazemi's aunt Sepideh Salmani told The Tennessean newspaper that after they met a sports bar where she was waitressing, "They exchanged phone numbers, and started dating from there." They also recently went on a tropical vacation together.

They may have filed for divorce, but Jon and Kate Gosselin have made good on their pledge to focus on their children, reuniting for a Fourth of July picnic.

At their home in Wernersville, Pa., the family played volleyball and picked blueberries for a cake Kate was baking, while Jon was seen lighting sparklers.

Fortunately, Cara, Mady, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel were all seemingly able to escape injury ... and a Kate Gosselin spanking.

The event had been planned, as the stars of TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 agreed a few weeks ago to fulfill their contractual obligations and act like they can tolerate each other set aside their differences for the national holiday.

How wonderful - and not shocking - to see them reunite. Since Kate's book and clothing line have recently been sacked, the show's all she's got left.

How sweet. All 10 Gosselins are back together ... if only because it's a national holiday, and TLC told them to be for the sake of their reality show. [Photo: Splash News]

"Jon pointed to the July 4 holiday and said, 'What are we going to do about that?'" Kate Gosselin recently told People. "I absolutely cannot imagine not spending every single holiday with my kids. I don't care what it takes. I will be there."

Apparently, so will Jon. Even if he is spending the rest of his time hunting for NYC apartments, giving it to Deanna Hummel and posting a profile on Match.com.

Madonna vamps it up in ... whoa, sorry about that. Cameron Diaz channels her inner Material Girl as she takes the cover of the Fall 2009 issue of V Magazine.

She looks almost unrecognizable, making for a very cool '90s-ish Madge homage. In other news, the magazine has a feature on "Lady Gaga uncovered."

Kylie Jenner Fashion

Pretty sure Rolling Stone's Lady Gaga nude cover already covered that, but hey, can you have too much of a good (weird) thing? Anyway, here's Cameron ...

Myriad questions and numerous individuals are at the center of the Michael Jackson investigation, but there may be one central key to uncovering the truth.

Drs. Conrad Murray, Arnold Klein, Allan Metzger and others have come under suspicion as officials try to determine who supplied and administered the anesthesia Propofol and other drugs to the late star. But details so far have been sketchy.

Michael, Paris and Prince Jackson

When dealing with celebrities, some doctors use pseudonyms for patients and sometimes their medical records and charts mysteriously get "lost."

But TMZ reports that most doctors leave one indelible footprint when it comes to treating their patients, and it all starts with billing information.

Many doctors use medical software systems from MD Systems, NexTech and others. These companies provide software in which doctors input billing data.

Doctors typically input the patient's name, billing amount, the type of treatment, type of drugs prescribed and administered, and the date of service.

The clincher? That data cannot be deleted from the server.

Michael Jackson's cause of death is unknown ... for now.

The system allows doctors to add other data like medical charts, which can be deleted. But if someone deletes data, the software shows the name of the user who did it in addition to the date it took place. Basic billing information will not go away.

The police found Propofol - a powerful anesthesia that should never be outside a hospital - in Jackson's house. If cops find who supplied and administered it, the doctor(s) could face very serious questions and possibly even criminal charges.

While there are no notable celebrity birthdays on the 4th of July, the United States of America (1776-present) turns 233 today. Give it up for the red, white and blue!

In honor of our great growing yet another year older and (hopefully) wiser, here's an image that pretty much sums up what the glory of this country is all about.

Happy birthday, America ...

A doctor tied to Michael Jackson, Dr. Allan Metzger, was reprimanded by a Medical Board in September 2000 for "fraudulent medical practice based on prescriptions written for an international entertainer, using a false/fictitious name."

Dr. Metzger confirmed to TMZ that this entertainer is Janet Jackson.

The doctor has also treated Michael Jackson, gone on tour with the star on his HIStory tour in the 1990s and videotaped his wedding to Debbie Rowe.

He is a lupus specialist - Michael Jackson reportedly had the disease.

In the late 90s, Metzger wrote prescriptions for Janet Jackson using the name of her chef, Ricardo Macchi, he admits, saying the prescriptions were for diuretics.

Macchi sued Dr. Metzger over the matter but the suit was dropped.

He also wrote a prescription for a hepatitis B injection - he says he wrote it because Janet was going on tour and wanted to guard against the disease.

"I had done this for Janet for her anonymity," he said.

As for Michael Jackson, Metzger claimed, "I have not treated Michael Jackson for many years." He says he has talked to Jackson on the phone over the years, even giving him medical advice. As for whether he prescribed meds for Jackson?

"I am not at liberty to discuss Michael's medical care," he said.

Doctors associated with Jackson are coming under intense scrutiny due to the singer's death June 25 from what is looking more and more like a drug overdose.

Happy Fourth of July, celebrity gossip fans. Below, The Hollywood Gossip staff takes a look back at what was a tragic, eventful week in the celebrity world.

As you all know, one story dominated the news ...

  • The cause of Michael Jackson's death is looking more and more like an overdose of dangerous prescription drugs. An LAPD and DEA investigation continues.
  • Meanwhile, Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe wants custody of "her" kids, while speculation persists that he was not the biological father of his own children. Dermatologist Arnold Klein, who treated MJ, is rumored to be the actual dad.
  • Media coverage of Jackson's demise has run the gamut. The OK! cover pic showed him dying, while Life & Style alleges he someone killed him. Amazing.
  • In a new interview, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag say birth control is a conspiracy, think September 11 was an "inside job," abhor fame, etc.
  • As some Bachelorette spoilers predicted, Ed returned, while Wes Hayden's "girlfriend" Laurel Kagay has been broken up with him for a year.
  • In other Bachelor news, Melissa Rycroft is engaged to Tye Strickland!
  • Sarah Palin abruptly calls it quits as Governor of Alaska.
  • Former John Edwards campaign aide Andrew Young is allegedly writing a tell-all book. One rumor? He has a Rielle Hunter-John Edwards sex tape.
  • Kendra Wilkinson wedding pics: Not at all cheesy or tacky.
  • Kevin Jonas gets engaged to girlfriend Danielle Deleasa! Yay!
  • Robert Pattinson's aunt offers him some helpful dating advice.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced at a press conference yesterday that she is stepping down from her post July 26 and won't seek re-election in 2010.

Palin, who has 18 months left in her first term of office, said she is going to spend more time with her family, but specific reasons why she quit are unclear.

Her rambling, holiday-eve decision to resign as governor blindsided both her supporters and critics and left everyone trying to come up with an explanation.

As Andrew Sullivan of The Atlantic Monthly put it, "it was only a matter of time before she imploded or exploded or some gruesome combination of the two."

Does Palin simply want to devote more time to her family - or her status as a celebrity gossip fixture? Is she starting her 2012 White House bid super early?

Below are 10 theories why Sarah Palin is stepping down ...

  1. She's running for president. Conventional wisdom prior to yesterday was that Sarah Palin would be running - and not just in Runner's World - in 2012. Maybe she still is, and is just launching her White House bid three years early?
  2. She's not running for president. Conversely, some believe Palin isn’t aiming for the White House or any other office. If that's true, why stay Governor?
  3. She's pregnant. Pure, baseless speculation. But would you be surprised?
  4. She's sick of Alaska. A CNN source says Palin "thinks she has had a positive influence on people's lives" from traveling around the country like she did last year. Maybe she really believes this is what's best for the party.
  5. It was spontaneous. Hey, no one ever accused the loose cannon of thinking things through. See her response to all things Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston.
  6. A federal indictment is looming. The Daily Beast's Max Blumenthal reports that Todd Palin's snowmobile sponsor, Spenard Building Supplies, may have been mixed up in questionable political and Palin family business.
  7. The media got to her. Palin is never one to shy away from butting heads with media, but Vanity Fair's 10,000-word critique of her this month was a killer.
  8. She is unstable. Well, to a point there's no doubt about this one.
  9. Her staff is incompetent. Ditto #8.
  10. She is a narcissist. Is her ego such that she is angling for greater fame, fortune and publicity than the Alaska Governorship could offer? Does she desire a TV show to go along with her recently-signed book deal?

We are interested to hear why you think she is stepping down. Share your theories with us via comments below. Here's the video of Sarah Palin's resignation ...

You know what they say. The 36th time is the charm.

Like Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, these two have broken up and gotten back together so many times that we can't even keep track anymore. And also like the aforementioned couple, one of them is much hotter than the other!

Last night, Lindsay Lohan celebrated her 23rd birthday - which she already did a week ago - by advertising that she is totes back together with Samantha Ronson.
