When the actor was just getting his start in the '90s, he became friends with Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist, a woman who volunteered at an L.A. laundromat.
When Zach learned in 2011 that his friend had fallen on hard times and was homeless, he got her an apartment and started taking her to red carpet events.
Haist, 87, told the New York Daily News that she loves the experience and is prepping to go as Galifianakis’ date to the upcoming Hangover III premiere.
“I’m looking forward to it, I like the excitement of it,” Haist said.

He won't be dealing with any oversized mushrooms, but Antonio Banderas has landed the role of Super Mario in The 33.
The upcoming film will focus on the amazing true story of 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days in 2010.
Production will begin this fall with a release date some time in 2014 and Banderas is on board as Mario Sepulveda, who came to be known as known as “Super Mario” throughout the scary adventure.

Florida teenager Kaitlyn Hunt faces criminal charges stemming from a romantic relationship with another young female student, according to reports.
Hunt, 18, faces two felony counts of "lewd and lascivious battery on a child 12 to 16" after the parents of her 15-year-old girlfriend pressed charges.
The case has sparked national attention and a Free Kate campaign.
Kaitlyn Hunt's mother, Kelley Hunt-Smith, posted on Facebook:
"These people never came to us as parents, never tried to speak to us... and tell us they had a problem with the girls dating. They were out to destroy my daughter."
"[They] feel like my daughter 'made' their daughter gay."
