As we previously reported, Jonathan Rivera and Fernanda Flores have split.
Now, Jonathan has come forward to explain this shocking 90 Day Fiance breakup.
He even reveals exactly how long it has been since he has spoken to his wife.
Speaking to InTouch Weekly, Jonathan Rivera reveals exactly how long he and his wife have been out of contact.
"I haven’t spoken to Fernanda since December 22," Jonathan shares.
Fans suspected that something was up when the couple didn’t seem to celebrate Christmas or New Year’s Eve together.
But this happened days earlier than most had guessed.
"I have a lot going on," Jonathan explains.
"And so in the midst of all the craziness," he reasons. "I try to focus on what’s important."
That heartbreaking shade means that Fernanda herself is not important to him anymore.
But he wants to make it clear that their relationship was never some sort of stunt.
"My feelings for Fernanda were real," Jonathan affirms.
"And," he adds. "Fernanda’s feelings for me were real."
Often, 90 Day Fiance breakups lead to accusations against the party who was younger, less affluent, and not American.
"Fernanda’s not a gold digger," Jonathan states firmly.
He adds: "Fernanda didn’t come here for a green card."
So … what happened?
"What happened was things change," Jonathan reasons.
That is very true, unfortunately.
Jonathan explains that "things change and people change."
"And," he laments. "I can’t help that."
"I don’t know how to help someone from changing who they are or who they were."
"Also, she’s young, 20 years old."
"You have a tendency to continue to grow, you want different things as time goes on"
"and I can’t blame her for that."
According to Jonathan, he always supported her dreams no matter what.
He was, he shares, her biggest fan.
"She can tell you that," Jonathan says.
There are so many toxic, nasty relationships on 90 Day Fiance.
It’s a real shame to see things fall apart for these two.
"I really appreciated all the support that I’ve seen on my Instagram, Jonathan affirms.
"And," he adds, he appreciates "the people who can tell that I genuinely love Fernanda."
“I gave it everything I had," he expresses. "I think that was very apparent in the show."
"None of that was edited, that was my heartfelt feelings," Jonathan affirms. "You know you can only give so much until you start giving yourself away."
"What I’m saying is, I guess there was a point where I realized it was never going to be enough," he says of their breakup.
Despite these bittersweet feelings, he says that he has high hopes.
Jonathan hopes that he and Fernanda will talk again, and settle things amicably.
But that’s not the same thing as wanting to reconcile.
He hopes that they’ll peacefully and happily live their respective lives … separately.
"Overall, I’m positive about 2019,” Jonathan says. “I’m excited to be able to focus on building my business back."
He works in real estate, and it looks like he’s going to be pouring his energies into his work.
"And," he concludes, he looks forward to "expanding on other opportunities for the new year."
Fernanda has yet to directly respond to Jonathan’s interview.
She did, however, post a clear reference to their split on New Year’s Eve.
Fernanda wrote a copy of Jonathan’s wedding vows, put the words in quotes, and credited them "he said."
Her implication appears to be that, by refusing to even speak to her, he is not cherishing her as he had promised.
That said, now that it has been a few weeks, we would all like to hear how Fernanda is feeling about this.
Still, Fernanda and Jonathan’s breakup still makes them much more successful than some of their castmates.
