The Voice Season 8 began this fall’s epic Battle Rounds with contestants dueling it out for survival, with everything at stake in mano a mano duels.

Well, assuming no superstar throws them a lifeline.

Thank goodness for the steal – coaches can grab defeated singers, two apiece, in this round – because without them, this would be unfair.

With the singers feeding off of one another and lending their respective strengths to the duet as a whole, instantly eliminating one is cruel.

Even if there’s a clear victor, knowing that the steal is in play allows us to focus on what a thoroughly creative and entertaining format this is.
