Might the man responsible for some of the most memorable The Simpsons quotes of all-time never utter another word for Fox?

This, sadly, appears to be the case.

Shearer, Simpsons

Harry Shearer, the comic and veteran actor who has provided the voices for endless iconic characters since the very first season of The Simpsons, hinted strongly via Twitter last night that his time on the series has come to an end.

First, Shearer cites The Simpsons creator and wrote: from James L.  Brooks’ lawyer: "show will go on,  Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.

He then added:

This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best.

The use of pronouns in that second Tweet make it a bit confusing, but it sounds as if a problem arose because Shearer wanted to work on other projects while remaining on The Simpsons.

Last week, Fox renewed The Simpsons for Seasons 27 and 28.

Shearer, meanwhile, is the man behind such mainstays as Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Seymour Skinner and Kent Brockman.

His role in 2013’s "Four Regrettings and a Funeral" episode won him an Emmy for Outstanding Character Voiceover Performance.
