Fans of the Duggar family like to think of the 19 Kids and Counting clan as simple, rural, Christian folk with a serious distaste for birth control.

That may have been an accurate description at one point, but these days, the Duggars are also famous and influential reality TV stars and their two identities occasionally come into conflict with one another, such as when Jim Bob and company recently staged a charity scene for TLC cameras.

The story goes that on April 27, Michelle tweeted that the whole Duggar fam (including the pregnant Jessa Duggar) would be giving away food to needy families at a Springdale, Arkansas thrift store.

Sources say the Duggars arrived late, and instead of families in need, they were greeted by rabid fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous family.

As a result, the camera crew shot (and re-shot) a scene of the Duggars carrying food into the thrift store, and then producers convinced a family that was shopping nearby to pretend that they were impoverished and grateful for the Duggars’ donations.

"Let’s go over this…You’re really happy that the Duggars have brought you this food, you really need this for your family," a producer reportedly told the Martinez family, who had been shopping for clothes moments earlier.

Onlookers say patriarch Jim Bob Duggar then stood before the family and told a tale of the poverty he experienced while growing up in rural Arkansas.

Cameras then captured images of the Duggar kids loading up the Martinez’s truck with boxes of food.

Several sources claim that after the cameras stopped rolling, the boxes were removed from the truck and placed in one of the Duggars’ SUVs.

Shady stuff, but in fairness, at least the Duggars wanted to do something good. Apparently they just … couldn’t find any poor people?
