The last time we checked in on Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, Stone was gushing about Garfield in interviews, and he was returning the favor by calling her a “shot of sunshine.” (Seriously.)

Starfield has been one of Hollywood’s favorite couples for almost four years and they and they were all over each other on the Amazing Spider-Man 2 red carpet just last summer, so it’s something of a shock to hear that they may have called it quits.

Now, we had the same thought as you – they were probably torn apart by being forced to promote that cinematic turd together last July. But apparently starring in the worst Spidey movie to date (Yes, we’re including Tobey’s Spider-Man 3.)

According to Hollywood Life, it’s the “long distant nature of their relationship” that’s causing them to go their separate ways.

And no, we’re not referring to the fact that Stone is so much higher up the Hollywood ladder that she’s no longer within shouting distance of Garfield.

“It’s clear they’ve drifted apart,” says one insider. “They are taking some time to figure things out.”

Apparently, the nail in the coffin came during awards season, when Stone was nominated for an Oscar and Garfield didn’t even attend the ceremony.

“Yes, Andre was filming, but he could have gotten away if he really wanted to,” says the source. “The fact is, neither of them wanted to plaster on a smile and pretend like everything was okay.

Everyone liked them as a couple, but maybe this was unavoidable. After all, Stone is a certified A-lister these days, whereas Garfield is one of those actors that Hollywood keeps trying to “make happen.”
