American Idol Season 14 brought its remaining 11 singers to the stage Thursday on movie night, vying for votes and a spot in the coveted Top 10.

The new format features a once-a-week show that combines results from the previous week with new performances to determine next week’s results.

That means you could see someone knock out out of the park on the same night they receive terrible vote totals from their previous effort. In theory.

Did this come into play last night? Let’s get to this week’s results …

After Ryan Seacrest revealed who received enough votes on last week’s episode to make the Top 10, only Qassim Middleton was left off the list.

Middleton then sang for his live in a bid to win the judges’ save, and selected “Come Together,” which he would have also used had be been safe.

Never lacking for theatrics and showmanship, Middleton left it all on the stage and delivered some powerful vocals to boot in this last ditch effort.

Judge Harry Connick Jr. was floored by it, telling him, “That was arguably the best performance of the night. So let’s get that out of the way.”

“Unfortunately, we have to talk about the issue of the save."

The judges panel only gets one all season, so it seemed unlikely they would use it before the Top 10, and a guarantee that they wouldn’t use it lightly.

But they did! Qassim Middleton will remain on Idol!

That means we still don’t have our Top 10, and next week, we’ll leapfrog right over the Top 10 to the Top 9, which will be comprised of 9 of these 11:

Adanna Duru, Daniel Seavey, Rayvon Owens, Nick Fradiani, Joey Cook, Tyanna Jones, Quentin Alexander, Maddie Walker, Clark Beckham, Qassim and Jax.

Who do you think will advance? Did Qassim deserve the save? Should they have used it so early? And who was the best among last night’s performers?
