There were a number of emotional, buzzworthy moments from the 2015 Academy Awards, but Tim McGraw’s tribute to Glen Campbell might have taken the cake.

The singer was the talk of Twitter from the moment Faith Hill and Tim McGraw walked the red carpet last night, but he saved his best act for the show itself.

McGraw sang an emotional version of Glen Campbell’s Oscar-nominated song "I’m Not Gonna Miss You," filling in for the 78-year-old country great.

Short, sweet, simple and heartfelt, Tim’s rendition commanded and captivated the attention of the thousands in attendance and tens of millions at home.

Campbell was unable to attend due to his deteriorating health, and searches for the legendary singer topped all of social media after McGraw performed.

Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011 and was moved into a memory care facility last year, a sad reality that is all too familiar for many.

His wife, Kim Wooden, said in an interview this month that the singer is "healthy, content and jovial," although "cognitively, he’s declined quite a bit."

We wish Glen and his family the best. Whether he knows it or not, Tim did him proud last night at the Academy Awards, and the whole world saw it.

Other musical highlights Sunday night included Lady Gaga’s amazing Sound of Music tribute, which brought the Dolby Theatre and Twitter to its feet.

The Oscar winners for Best Original Song, meanwhile, were Common and John Legend, whose performance of "Glory" left not a dry eye in the house.

It was a good night to be a music fan, even at an event devoted to moving pictures and not music notes. Which Oscar performance was your favorite?
