Aaron Hernandez‘s fiancee Shayanna Jenkins has been granted immunity to testify in the former NFL star’s murder trial, according to multiple reports.
Prosecutors want to question Shayanna Jenkins, who has a young daughter with Hernandez, 25, about her conversations with him the morning of the murder.
The bullet-riddled body of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd was found at a construction site near their North Attleboro, Mass., home on June 17, 2013.
Shayanna had a close connection to Odin, investigators believe.
Jenkins’ sister Shaneah, who was Lloyd’s girlfriend at the time, testified last week about seeing Jenkins having a series of short phone calls that morning.
Shaneah also testified that she noticed her sister carrying a black trash bag out of the house, then borrowing her car for a half-hour trip away from home.
It is believed this could be related to the murder weapon, which was never found and represents the literal smoking gun prosecutors can’t pin on Hernandez.
Prosecutors believe Jenkins was the one who got rid of the gun used in the murder, and that it was seen on surveillance video in Hernandez’s possession.
The alleged weapon used to kill Lloyd was visible inside the athlete’s mansion on security footage just minutes after the killing, according to the state.
Hernandez himself is accused of shooting him, execution style.
For what it’s worth, security camera images from inside the Hernandez home showed the duo in a long embrace the morning after the alleged murder.
Jenkins has already been indicted on perjury charges for allegedly giving false testimony to the grand jury in this case, but her immunity may nix that.
The former New England Patriots tight end is also the subject of a separate double murder investigation in Boston, stemming from a fatal drive by shooting.
Heavy snow has delayed testimony until Wednesday in the Fall River, Mass., courthouse, but it is expected to pick up today and should be very interesting.
