Kelly Clarkson always knew she wanted to be a singer.

But the original American Idol tells the latest issue of People Magazine that her life took a "180" last year when she gave birth to daughter River Rose because parenthood wasn’t always part of her life plan.

“I never thought I was going to be a mom," Clarkson explains in the cover story. "So it’s very much changed my world in the most awesome way.”

Clarkson spoke to People from the home she shares with husband Brandon Blackstock in Nashville, opening up about how her personal life has transcended her professional life.

In the best way possible.

"I love what I do, but I feel like I relied on my career a lot for my self-worth. And now I’m more than that,” she says. “I’m a mother and a wife and have this whole other thing going on.”

And she’s therefore able to shrug it off when some moron calls her fat.

Clarkson is coming out with a new album on March 3 and she’s clearly excited to continue singing and performing.

But that’s not what she hopes to be remembered for when all is said and done.

"I’ve accomplished a lot," Kelly says. "But I guess the biggest success I want is that whenever I die people will say, ‘She was so successful as a mother, and as a wife.’ That’s kind of my big goal.”
