Over the holidays, a rumor that Lena Dunham is engaged to Jack Antonoff circulated around the Internet, thus becoming the first mildly positive Lena Dunham-related headline to appear online in 2014.

Sadly, Dunham shot the news down yesterday, and she did so in the classically snotty fashion that we’ve come to associate with the girl from Girls.

Dunham claims the stack of rings she was sporting on that finger is actually a symbol of her friendship with Girls co-creator Jenni Konner.

Naturally, Lena can’t see what all the confusion is about and she’s pissed – pissed! – about the obvious left hand-right hand double standard that permeates out society:

"I have a ring that my boyfriend gave me that I wear on my right hand," Dunham told People magazine. "And like clearly nobody gives a sh-t about it. It’s like a diamond!"

"Everybody was like, ‘Let’s ignore that diamond and focus on this stack of three rings.’ I definitely had a feeling, like, ‘Slow news day, dudes?’"

Let’s all take a moment to reflect on anti-right hand bigotry and ask ourselves what we can do about it in 2015.

Of course, Lena wasn’t done correcting us and pointing out how unique and special she is. (In fact, she’ll probably never be done with that.):

"If we’re going to get engaged, we would be more creative than to do it on New Year’s Eve," said Dunham. "We don’t want to be basic."

Well, to her credit – of all the things Dunham has been accused of in the past year, being basic sure isn’t one of them.

Anyone who’s read Dunham’s memoir knows that "basic" is not even on the list of adjectives that come to mind with this girl.

Seriously, just skim through the part about her sister. It involves pebbles and vaginas. It’s many things, but it’s certainly not basic.
