Last week, Teresa Giudice received a prison visit from her family for the first time since she began serving her 15-month sentence on January 5.

Based on everything we’d heard about Teresa being targeted by other inmates and generally struggling with her adjustment to life behind bars, we imagined the reunion as a somewhat depressing occasion.

But that wasn’t the case, according to Teresa’s eldest daughter, Gia.

“It was fun!” the 14-year-old aspiring singer replies when asked about the visit on Twitter. “It’s nothing like anyone would expect.”

She added that her mother looked better than expected, considering her circumstances.

“She had just had her makeup done,” Gia tweeted, adding that her mother looked “so good.”

That’s a welcome surprise, as the last we’d heard, the rules of Danbury Correctional can make it difficult to stick to a beauty regimen, and Teresa was afraid she’d go bald behind bars due to the ban on extensions and hair care products.

Sources say Gia Giudice has stepped up and taken on a maternal role in the Giudice household, and the teen seems optimistic about her family’s future:

“My family is probably one of the strongest families I know,” Gia recently told Access Hollywood. “So we’ll get through this. It’s gonna be fine. And when it’s over, we’ll be better than ever.”
