Rick Castle was blasted by his 1980s past on Castle Season 7 Episode 9, as an action hero he grew up idolizing was found dead… which gave this author a chance to play action hero himself.

Kate Beckett, meanwhile, bid an emotional farewell. To her apartment.

The installment partly riffed on The Expendables, of course, with Ted McGinley on board as a Sylvester Stallone type.

And it was a ton of fun, with Rick having to come to grips with certain realities, such as Lance DeLorca having lied about his spy background.

It can be a fine line to balance Rick Castle as an excitable fanboy with Rick Castle as a mature, successful author (and now husband!), but "Last Action Hero" walked that line very well.

Then there was the secondary story of Beckett realizing that Rick never cared a great deal for her apartment. The couple spent part of the episode readying to move out so Kate’s cousin, Sofia, could move in.

This led to a Kate/Lanie scene in which, if you watch Castle online, you’ll see Beckett’s close pal recounting all she has been through while residing in that place

So Kate paid her apartment one final visit, carving her name in a wall and looking overs it emptiness and, yes, it grew sort of dusty in our living room.

All without Stana Katic uttering a word. Very well acted and very well written all around.

What did everyone think of Castle realizing his boyhood dream? Of being an action hero, we mean, not of marrying Kate Beckett?
