Amal Clooney is the year’s Most Fascinating Person, at least according to Barbara Walters and her annual Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People TV special.

Unless you’re a legal scholar, and maybe not even then, few people knew who Amal Alamuddin was prior to this spring. Now she’s married to George Clooney.

Who is the mystery woman who tamed the most famous bachelor in Hollywood?

The fact that we still can’t really answer that certainly adds to the Amal intrigue.

“What does it take to fascinate one of the most fascinating men in the world,” asked the veteran journalist, who added, “She is known primarily through her spouse.”

“We know little about her,” said Walters, noting that Amal Alamuddin Clooney is now up there with Jackie O, Princess Di and Kate Middleton in that regard.

Babs said Amal getting Clooney to say “I do” was “one of the greatest achievements in history,” in what we think (hope) was a tongue in cheek remark.

Walters, who obviously didn’t have an interview with Amal, noted that both Clooneys are committed to human rights issues and are children of journalists.

The former Amal Alamuddin is a high-powered attorney who met the acclaimed movie star at a charity dinner in Italy. The rest, as they say, is history.

Amal bested Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Neil Patrick Harris, George R.R. Martin, Chelsea Handler, Elon Musk, David Koch, Oprah Winfrey, and Michael Strahan.

All fascinating, but not quite on par with the newly married Mrs. Clooney.

In claiming the top spot on Walters’ annual list, she joins previous recipients Hillary Clinton (2013), David Petraeus (2012, 2010) and Steve Jobs (2011).
