Anne Hathaway bares nearly all in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
And, no, we’re not just saying this because the actress is posing topless for the magazine.
But Hathway gets very personal in publication’s cover story, saying she was well aware of the backlash against her in early 2013, when many believed she came across as sort of lame and pathetic for clearly wanting to win an Academy Award so badly.
(Spoiler Alert: She did end up winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Les Miserables.)
“People treated me a certain way,” Hathaway said. “But I’ve grown from it. This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person. And I don’t feel sorry for myself.”
Hathaway says she ran across an article headlined “Why Does Everyone Hate Anne Hathaway?” the day after the Golden Globes… and it hurt. A lot.
“Punched in the gut,” the star says, remember how she felt upon first seeing the story. “Shocked and slapped and embarrassed. Even now I can feel the shame.
“I was in crisis. Now I’d be fine. I really would be. I’d let it roll off my back, but at the time I was still partly Fantine [her character in Les Mis]. I was still identifying with being a victim.”
Hathaway was then widely criticized for her Oscars dress, eventually telling The Huffington Post in January that she got the feeling “people needed a break from me.”
But Hathaway will next been seen in the HUGELY anticipated Interstellar, which is directed by Christopher Nolan and which co-stars Matthew McConaughey. It comes out on November 7.
“Once it was announced that I was doing Interstellar, thankfully the phone started ringing again,” she says.
