Yesterday, HBO confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in True Detective season 2.

If the series’ second go-round was set to be structured like the first season, then all our major casting questions would basically be answered.

But creator Nic Pizzolatto has stated that the show will feature an ensemble cast this time, rather than simply focusing on the lives of two partnered cops as it did in season one.

In a move that surprised many (and that might be a reaction to criticism for perceived misogynistic undertones in season one) Pizzolatto revealed several months ago that the show will now feature at least one female lead.

While a number of A-list names have been tossed about (Jessica Chastain shot down casting rumors back in May), no actresses have been confirmed for the coveted role. That may have changed today:

Variety is now reporting that Rachel McAdams has been offered the part of a cop who partners with Farrell’s Detective Ray Velcoro to help unravel a city-wide conspiracy in Los Angeles.

According to HBO’s first official announcement about the show’s upcoming storylines, True Detective Season 2 will feature “three cops and a career criminal,” meaning one lead role has yet to be filled.

Insiders have reportedly told Variety that while no offer has yet been made, former Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch is the frot-runner for the part of the third detective.

The second season of the acclaimed HBO crime drama is set to premiere in summer of 2015. As always, if you need to catch up, or you simply want to relive the dark, twisty maze of the first season, you can watch True Detective online at TV Fanatic.
