CBS introduced viewers to Elizabeth McCord last night.

The character, played by Teo Leoni, was at the center of Madam Secretary Season 1 Episode 1, as we watched a female Secretary of State (based on Hillary Clinton) juggle her personal life and her very important professional life.

McCord is shrewd. She’s determined. And she’s in charge of international diplomacy, while also dealing with inner office politics on a daily basis.

A college professor and a whip smart ex-CIA analyst who left that agency for ethical reasons, McCord returned to public life at the request of the President following the suspicious death of her predecessor. Hmmm….

The President placed high value on McCord’s her apolitical leanings, along with her her in-depth knowledge of the Middle East and her flair for languages.

This is a woman unafraid to think outside the box. Heck, as the President stated, she doesn’t even know there IS a box.

McCord is happily married to a man named Henry and has kids at home. She saves the life of two Americans in Syria on the opening episode.

Madam Secretary also stars Tim Daly, Zeljko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Geoffrey Arend and Patina Miller. It’s actually produced by Morgan Freeman as well.
