Back in 2001, Katy Perry wasn't even Katy Perry.
She was Katy Hudson, a fresh-faced, teenage Christian rock singer with some big musical dreams but little resemblance to the woman now known worldwide.
At that time, cameraman Jim Standridge had the chance to spend time with Katy while filming electronic press materials for her then-record company.
One which he just now unearthed. Take a look:
“Everyone thinks I’m like a superstar … but that’s not how I am at all. I’m just some little kid from California who plays the guitar and sings,” Hudson says.
It's hard to believe that this innocent girl would one day produce five No. 1 singles on one album and become one of the driving forces in popular music.
The footage, edited down from 90 minutes to just under 13, shows the 17-year-old "pizza face" playing with her hair, performing before a small crowd.
Standridge writes, "the other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about."
"Funny how she spent so much time messing with her hair ... In the present day her hair changes color and style in every photo shoot, music video and performance."
"I quickly put together a short edit of the experience with Katy Perry," he says, adding "I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman. Enjoy."
That she has. She really, really has ...
